hey Um 1 of my villagers is a master in 3 things and it said somthing about creating the Esteemed Elder and then it said a totem is created in the village and that hasn't happend can you tell me why?

Some of the totems are difficult to see, since they can blend in with their surroundings - especially the green ones and brown ones. Check to make sure that they aren't in the ocean. Everyone who has reported not getting a totem has later found it "hiding" somewhere - even behind another totem.

I had 2 of my totems right behind each other and I thought I didn't get my totem for one of my elders. I had no idea there was 2 there until I was moving my totems somewhere else.I kept making them work on the same task until the bar was full.I thought for some reason this elder had to have all his bats full before they issued a totem even though it said he was an elder.

It might hidden somewhere try searching for it and you will see

Could totems end up behind buildings where you can't see them? I have 32 elders and 31 totems. I have moved the totems all together in one place and then moved them all to a different part of the map to make sure there are none hidden by any others. i have also closed the game and re-opened it. I have also looed on the map.

Any other ideas why the totem count could be different?

No not really, but they can be in where the gong is and blend right into the hillside there I hunted for 1 for 10 days and found it there.

oh yes i see what you mean, thanks. Unfortunately it's not there but it could have been as I wouldn't have thought it could go 'behind' those thorns.

I have looked in the ocean, thanks. I have lined them up by type and counted them so that I don't double-count them. I'm sure it must be me not the game!

I shall keep trying and if I am still stuck then I will see if LadyCFII can help me. I don't want to be embarrassed if it's somewhere obvious!

I have even 'grabbed' the screen all the way around just in case.

what I also meant to ask was how many different types are there? maybe I am not seeing it because I am not looking for the right thing? I have found 8 types so far.

Yes they are 8:

There is not much I can do to determine why you might be missing a totem. The log file does not record totem creation, and examining your game would not provide any clues, either. We have seen some indication that villagers who become elders as a result of banging the gong might not get a totem, or the totem might not persist, but that hasn't been substantiated by reliable testing.

Thanks, I haven't had an elder created by banging the gong. I really don't know where it could be. And if you are not able to ascertain anything to assist then I shall just have to keep looking.

I see what you mean by the green blending into the background. when it's by the gong you haven't a hope of spotting it unless you know what you are looking for.

is there anywhere else I should be looking?

Hmmm... I don't know what's going on then. Would it be possible to send someone some screen shots so they can look for it too? In case it really is me?

I wonder if you replace the totems image to village_monk's modded image it will make the totems bright and bold and hopefully you'll be able to see the missing totem. Remember if you do this just to back-up the original image.

ok, thanks everyone - how exciting to have a go at hide and seek! right I have no clue what you mean by a mod and how to do that. I am also not sure how to post a screen shot. you wouldn't believe I used to work in IT!

Would it be possible that a totem might be hiding directly behind another and then when I pick up the one in front the one behind is stuck to it?

I dont think that is possible, but it is possible for a totem to behind a totem that you already have.

i have been thinking about this some more and one of my elders gained skill from the gong but it didn't makie them an elder at the time. they later went on to become an elder. from memory I think this was before I 'lost' a totem

so do you think this could be what happened? When they became an elder their totem didn't appear because it was as an indirect result of them being given skill by the gong? Would that also mean that if they became a master in a fourth skill that the totem would appear then?

It's hard to say what would happen. The gong does unexpected things at times. If you do try to make that villager master a 4th skill, please let us know what happens.

Unfortunately I don't know which one it was and I think they would probably have died by now. What I will do is try it again if I get the same situation as I now know what I am looking for - gone permitting, of course!
