I'm out of coconuts. My field won't grow for another hour and six minutes. I have 17 villagers and I'm 13360 tech points away from farming lvl 3 with only 291 food left. Is there any way to save my village or the only thing left the mass funeral. T.T

i am assuming that your ocean is full of algae (if it isn't, just drop your villagers in the ocean to fish).

i have been in your situation a dozen times. the only way i have gotten thru this was kind of radical. it isn't for everyone.

i made the triple black vine poison stew and killed half my villagers. i went after the lazy ugly ones. 17 villagers is just too many to try to support until after you get level 3 farming done and fix the algae problem.

after you kill 8 or 9 of them, dump the poison stew and make the rainbow stew and keep them alive with that, and use the kids to get mushrooms.

regarding mushrooms - use the number pad with numlock on to zip around the island looking for mushrooms. load the mod with the black and white background (pleasantville), and then load either my easter egg mod or my giant pink mushroom mod on top of that so you wont miss a mushroom (giant pink mushroom the size of a child shows up very well against the black and white pleasantville background, you will never miss another mushroom again).

i did not like this solution but it was the best i could come up with.

Your villagers are quite hardy. Even when the food level drops to zero it will take a while for them to take starvation damage. As others have said, set your kids to mushroom-hunting. If you find a red mushroom or manage to get a small store of food in the bin and the villagers have taken starvation damage, make a rainbow stew to restore them. You should get past the lack of food without too much trouble apart from time spent looking for mushrooms. Don't ignore the collectibles; duplicates are worth tech points, which cut the time taken to reach L3 Farming and future self-sufficiency in food.

Villagers seem to consume about 20 units of food per village year. At 2x speed you still have about 51 minutes before the food supply reaches zero. Much longer at other speeds. And, as Arnie pointed out, it then will take a LONG time for there to be a really significant effect on the villers' health.

If you get to a point where you need to rely on mushrooms for food, you might want to consider switching to 1/2 speed, since the food value for mushrooms (and crabs, but you can't get those with algae), unlike other food sources, remain constant regardless of game speed and the consumption rate seems to be based on a villager year... taking longer at 1/2 speed. Of course you will need to monitor your village constantly (or nearly so) to take advantage of the mushroom crop.
