There's a "review mayor's messages" button that does absolutely nothing but remind you there's a lottery ('cause that pop up reminder interrupting the game isn't nearly enough!)
I'd love to see townie requests and who's been fed and how many apples were sold and who asked for what favor on that useless message screen.
