Well it finally happened.
I've been trying to run my villagers into the ground just to make it more difficult to keep going.

It's worked.
I now have an 8 year old boy running ramoant and extremely lonely.

Now the tough part.
How to get back to a population 0f 117?

Any suggestions on how to keep it going?
What game speed should I be running at?
I've never paused the game. Should I start?

I was actually starting to lose interest so I'm glad this has happened. Now my interest is peaked again.

Bill

If you read the story of the Hard Tribe, you'll see that it's possible to revive a tribe like that. Mine didn't get quite as bad as that, but an event saved it. So it is possible if you stick it out.

Thanks Krystal.

It doesn't seem to come up in a search and I went through the first 30 pages with no luck.

I was mistaken.

He is only 7.

And there is no food.

And his health meter is empty.

I've paused it.
I guess I'll leave it paused until I scan and find a few mushrooms.

Bill

I did see a post saying to run at half speed.

Any suggestions?

The story of The Hard Tribe can be found several places, but the most nicely formatted one is here. \:\)

Well, Buru seems like a determined little fella.

He has managed to collect a few mushrooms to sustain himself.

Buru seems to be losing his mind.
He sits waiting for someone to show up but he is not sure if they will be friendly so he has decided to hide the food bin.

Buru is now concerned about more than just his food. He feels someone may want what little medicine is left in the hospital, so he's hidden that too.
Since he has so much free time, he's decided to hide everything just to be safe.

Since Buru is still small, he is unable to lift all the dead bodies to be buried properly so the village is really starting to smell.

Buru is now 9 and completely healthy.

Now, when he turns 14, would you ring the gong or is it too risky?

How about events with an option?
Do I open the sacks? etc.

So many decisions.

I would hold off on the gong until you have built up a good supply of food. Also, if you are trying to decide on an event, look it up in the VV2 Island Events List: http://www.ldwforums.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/61262/page/1#Post61262

I would have said ring the bell. It usually grants my villagers, haven't had anything bad happen yet.

Whoa, did that tribe have 117 vilagers??? And what happened??? I'd get food, like Krystal said, then ring the gong. Game on half speed, once he's 14.

117 villagers was long ago but I'm confident I'll get back there. I'm not too worried about food. When I found it like this, Buru's health meter was completely empty and food was zero. Now at 9, it's completely full with 200 in the food bin. It's sort of self inflicted. I was getting bored so kept making it harder on myself to sustain. I went to the extreme of only allowing women between 45 and 49 to have children.

Up until I started this thread, I had never paused the game.
I was actually impressed with how much one child can do when I compared the download below to the one on the first post of this thread. Little Buru is trying so hard to pad my stats I'm determined to keep this going!

I have it on half speed while he's still 9. Are you saying I should wait until he's 14 to do that?

Yes, I was/am WillieWonka.

I forgot my password and have so many email addresses I couldn't figure out how to have it sent to me. I requested help numerous times over a 2 week period and got none so I just opened a new acct. I've since figured out which email addy I used so I can access that id now but have chose to just use this one.

Where did you send the request for help? I haven't seen any support requests for help with a lost password all year (and I can easily tell anyone which email they used to register). \:\)

That's not a valid support address. You either need to email support@ldw.com (which will redirect you to our FAQ) or submit a Support Form in order to actually reach someone at LDW. \:\)

OK here's what happened.

I became diconnected and tried to log back in but I couldn't remember my password.
I then requested my password.
When I did, It told me it does not have that email in the system.

On that same page it says 'Contact Us'.

I clicked on that and sent the email.

Just to make sure I did it just now and that's the email address that comes up everytime.

So basicly, if someone requests their password and types in the wrong email addy, they will be brought to a screen telling them this. If they then try to request help from that same page, their request will go unanswered?

I'll look into it. There have been a lot of changes over the last few months, and I don't believe that email address is monitored anymore. I agree that's not a good situation.

I hope I was able to help.
Should I/you delete one of the accounts?

Anyway,
Back to Buru.

I've been very busy and have left the game paused quite abit. When I have played, Ive been running at half speed.

I started this when he was 7. He is now 10.
In all that time I have yet to have an event.
Doesn't that seem to be a little long to go w/o one or is it because I'm at half speed.
Any idea on what a good average number of years per event would be?

Geez, For the amount of time I've put into this game I can't believe how clueless I still am. lol

Food supply is dropping.

Gotta go,

Bill....and Buru \:\)

You'd normally get an event 24 hours real time after the last one. The speed at which the game is running makes no difference. However, events only happen when you have at least one adult villager (14 or over). You'll have to wait for an event until Buru grows up a little more, I'm afraid.

When you are playing and taking care of Buru, you could play in 2x speed and he'll grow up faster! And when you quit, so pause the game!
(in 2x speed, he'll have 1 year more in 1 hour!!)

Thanks Arnie. I never knew that.

And Thanks SaxyT!
I'm confident he'll make it to 75.
What I'm not confident about is if he'll be doing it alone.

And thanks laurence. After reading Arnie's post I decided to do that. He just reached 11. Now I fear he's losing his mind.
Maybe not, though.
I think I had imaginary friends at that age and look how I turned out...er...never mind.

Laurence is right, but be careful, as playing at 2X speed means the food is consumed faster. You might find it difficult for Buru to survive on just mushrooms unless you get lucky and find a couple of red ones. Put the game back on half speed if the food level is getting dangerously low, and in any case do it once Buru turns 14.

So Buru finally learned how to fish and farm.
He's surprised the vegetables are so good since he's seen them sitting there for 7 years before harvesting.

He's 18 years old now and is very lonely but he feels he will meet someone real soon so he figured he'd change his clothes to freshen up abit.

Looking snazzy Buru.

Now just stay young forever or until a great island event comes along and all is not lost.

Yea! We just pulled one of our tribes, that was dive-bombing, out of despair! Somehow, after playing awhile, we ended up with a tribe of seven males...uhg, I got concerned but held out for an island event. As the youngest male was reaching his 50's I got a little worried when a barrel-of-babies showed up! With...you got it..one little girl. By the time she reached 18 I had two very slow moving elders but they somehow managed to begin repopulating the island. Poor girl's been through alot but she had seven little ones before she was the only adult left. Now we're just waiting to get her some help with chores!

Is there a Mother's Day Island Event? If not I think there ought to be after this experiance! haha. You could have a little hammock and the kids could bring flowers and fruit! haha.

Whew! I'm just glad it worked out. Hang in there!

Arnie,
You want to know how lucky he is?
You'll never guess what event he got today.

I know it was stupid of me to choose the outcome I did but I just had to see it say a fight broke out.

Still, It just ain't right what's happening to my little fella.

Yes,
He's mastered fishing but at 42, he can't help but think he is the last of a tribe of over 7000.

If the end is near, I'm really close...today 8 of my youngest and strongest villagers built a raft and set sail. What I have left is pretty much elderly, maybe 5 women of mating age, and children, and I have 94 people. My burial ground is filling up!!!

Poor Buru! But an event may arrive one day! Keep hope!
(I have seen on one of your pics that there is no fire. Take care of that, the fire is important for the villagers health!)

Thanks laurence.
Will do.

Buru is now 54 years old and has had the same event 3 times in a row.
Someone must want him to die a fire ant death.

That's definitely a very apt name. \:\)

Certainly, he should look after himself and keep warm. If he catches cold there will be no-one to heal him. He's starting to get on a bit, now. ;\)

Thanks for all the support everyone!!!

But I don't see Mr. B making it to tomorrow's event.

Today he barely avoided the mice to stay alive.

He's trying to prepare a stew as I type and at the speed he's going, it won't be ready for a few more hours he's slowed down so much.

I figured I'd make one last meal before letting him just relax on the beach for his final hours.

Or should I ring the gong to hope for a quick event?

The gong granted wisdom so no extra event.
He can't make a stew either.
He keeps forgetting what he's doing.

Now 67, the fire is only good for 6 more hours and he can't get another log on.

Boohoo has been alone for at least 60 years.

The end is definitely near.

Wait, why can't Boohoo get more logs on the fire? I've never had trouble doing that, though I don't think I usually use elderly to start the fire up. \:\?

WooHoo!!!

BooHoo was able to get a log on.

Still trouble with the stew but we're working on it.

These may be his final stats:

Yes. I've started one already.

I am going to reach the maximum number of totems this time.
That being 100.(my theory)

I don't know if it's possible but take care of your villagers, this time!
For me, the best challenge is to make Elders with villagers who are, a priori, not apt (because of their "likes/dislikes", for example) and to keep them living old, numerous and happy!!

But there are events that can give you more, so, if they happened to the right people enough times, you could wind up with a lot of elders.

I don't believe so.

I believe the trick is not to make any until you are told by an event. Once told, make that person an elder and you will be credited as having 2 while the program is only registering one. Once the program registers fifty, no more are allowed so you can only make an elder when the event happens again. Keep in mind that same event will have to happen fifty times for this to be proven.

Wish me luck!!!

There is an event that tells you to make an esteemed elder? I think there's an event that if you already have one and your really lucky, it'll give you another, but I may be mistaken.

No, it doesn't actually tell you.
But if you get the event where you see a reflection, and you make the right choice, that villager will be duplicated with a totem.
I had this happen with a child of a brand new tribe. She had a totem at 7 years old.
Once I finally made her an elder, my stat page said I've made 2.

No one else in this new tribe has mastered even two things other than the girl with double elder status.

I had this event in one tribe \:\) But in an other tribe, I had the same event, I replied the same and it duplicate the young villager but... no totem more (and also in my stats)!! I don't know why but I think that the difference is that I already had 50 totems, since a long time!!

I know that event duplicates a villager but it doesn't make the villager an elder. You have to have the event happen to an elder.

Yes it does! this event is (highlight for spoiler) the siver mirror ! The 1st time I had it, the double villager had a totem! which was in the narrow stream! And in my stats it says 51 totems! But not the 2nd time in the other tribe!

I think the trick is having it happen to someone who is not an elder and then having them become one.

If it happens to an elder, then you would have to start all over since you wouldn't be able to reach 100 at that point.

I haven't figured it all out yet but I definitely think I'm on to something.

Oh, Wonka, what a story! (pictorial story) I kept expecting him to be rescued somehow--what a life. How can a bunch of pixels touch us so much?! It reminds me of a book I read, "Ishi: Last of His Tribe", based on a true story of a man in the southwest who's entire tribe died out when he was still a kid. Years later he was found by a white-man who took him to a city, but he always greived over losing all he was familiar with.
