I am still using the trial, I want to beat it before I buy the game just to be sure... but anyways, my bush has run out and I have farming researched. However... All they are doing is watering and, when I tell them to, planting. Nothing is growing. It's been about... 3 hours and they are running low on food. Is there something else I need to do? They are currently doing this in the lower field near the water. Sometimes they water the area with the dead flowers...

Just be patient. After all, in real life the seeds take time to sprout.

If you catch them watering the dead flowers, pick them up and drop them on the farm instead. You have to keep on top of these guys or they will just waste their time and do unproductive things.

Just make sure your villagers are working the farm and it will bloom sooner or later. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a set amount of time that it takes to bloom, so cross your fingers that you get some crops before everyone starves.

I find that turning off the game for a half hour or an hour helps kick start the farm.

Ok cool, I wasn't sure if maybe I was in the wrong field (although I didn't think the dead flowers one would work...) Or if I was doing something wrong. Thanks. I had it on pause the whole day in case I was doing something wrong and they starved. I took it off right now.. I hope it gets done. Do they have to constantly plant as well as water? or just plant a few times then water water water. Because I rarely notice them planting on their own, mostly they water unless I tell them otherwise

BTW... I'm Kosi from earlier. I decided to make an account...

EDIT: Heh heh... I backed up the savegame file and fast forwarded time (just moved my clock ahead an hour) and the farm was going strong with food supplies growing and everyone still alive. I put it back to where it was now, I have it in my cradle, I'll watch the progress over the next hour.

I don't think it matters whether they're planting or watering; the farm will produce crops when it is ready. The important thing is that your villagers improve in their farming skill as they work the farm!

Does the number of people watering or planting at one time effect the rate that the crops will grow, or is this just a waste of manpower?

You villagers do research at the table, and you can use those points to purchase higher levels of technology. In addition, your villagers gain skill in farming, research, breeding, healing, and construction the more they perform those tasks.

I have no idea.. but after I got a litte over 300 in food, I put 4 of the people into research. And after 5 hours, I'm still only at 2788 tech points.. and the berry bush is just about gone.. and I'm down to 207 in food. 8O

If you're leaving your Palm device off, you might try leaving it on with the game running for awhile - they will gather food and research faster with the game on.

Villagers won't fish or swim if the beach is too littered.
