I've had couples go inside with no apparent pregnancy resulting from it. My little girl became a year older without a new baby so it didn't take.

A baby will not always "take" on just one try. Just like real life I guess. Keep trying, they will come.

You will know if you are successful if the girl comes out of the hut with a baby in her arms.

Or you can check her "Details" screen, and you'll see a status of "Nursing" when she has successfully produced a baby. Somewhere between 300 and 400 units of food is when they stop worrying about food. If one of them runs away, there's always a message as to the reason.

The women most certainly will breed with any man that comes along. My little villagers don't very discrete at all. I've created threesomes and mass orgies in that little hut.

I have noticed that the villagers can be a little picky. If a couple seem to not get on, you can either keep trying with them.....or just change the partners. It's almost like they are not attracted to some of their fellow villagers

If it's given a bit of a break, it should start being useful again later, but you should try to find other means of feeding your villagers as well

you need 1 of the researching areas to help you...do you need more clues?

I can't stress this enough, select one of your villagers, and got exploring around the village, you can get some great clues on what may need doing - and not just to get food (and get very frustrated to0)!!
