102???? Why on earth did you ever name yourself the Village Idiot? More like the Village Master I think. You even beat the developers on that one!

My oldest is 80, but I don't usually aim for L3 medicine until the very end, so perhaps I'll go for it earlier next time and see if they will live longer.

Ah, yes the age thing.... There is a bit of a discussion in the Real Arcade VV forum about this very thing. I think I started it (so now I'll finish it, haha) with a post called funnily enough "And now the age thing", there is now a post by Jer (our resident techmeister) "Headstones, etc.." Anyway, in one of my villages my eldest was 98. And as I doubt if I ever "met" this VV don't know what he/she was or did. What I mean by that is I never actually saw any villager creeping around the VV in his/her 90's and then dying, I'm certain I would have noticed. I always check the details of my VV's when I open the game and have never, ever see any in my details with an age of over 80, let alone seen them walking around trying to work, etc. I think that VV's normal life span is usually late 70's and that's it. It is a very, very, very rare occurence for them to live older then this. I do believe, however, that the stats board is a mess and is wholly inaccurate about most details, including ages of VV, and I hope in VV2 this is improved and resolved. But our Jer in Real Arcade is testing various theories on different computers to compare data, he said it would take a few days, I think it should be interesting what he finds out. My best guess is that less then 10% of VV's live over 80 whether they eat the so called "magic" fruit or are masters at anything. Although, apparently master builders seem to have the most stressful careers. Anyway, where was I, oh yes, the age thing.... Best of Irish, Maura

When you say that "the stats board is a mess and is wholly inaccurate about most details, including ages," are you referring to the high scores page on our site? That leader board has been overhauled, and doesn't even have villagers' ages on it. We are also considering further changes to improve players experiences with the high scores.

I like the idea of further mod to the leaderboard. I find it disheartening that im in 5th place for real hours and i dont show up anywhere and of course i cant reorganize it, and how the heck did i go from 3rd yesterday to 5th today, everyones hours are the same UNLESS YOUR CHEATING. *eyeballs around*

I actually was talking about the stats board, but as I didn't want to divert from the age question, I've posted my thoughts regarding this on the "leaderboard" thread instead. Regarding the aging question, I realise there can be little glitches in games, but I've been playing for awhile and have five games on the go. My point is that although my stats told me I've had elderly VV's, over mid 80's and eldest in one at 98, I've never seen them in the villages. I always rename my VV's as I find it easier to "relate" to them, as well as keeping track of new borns and special delivery babies (crates/barrels) so I'm pretty aware of the VV's in each game and what they are doing. And I've never seen a villager over 80 actually walking, or should I say doddering, around the village. That just makes me think that with all the care and attention some people like to give to their VV's (I for one, like to treat my elders to the magic fruit followed by a lagoon "spa" treatment, going for an holistic approach, haha!) I don't think the life span goes beyond late 70's as a rule. Anything over that is very, very rare. Best of Irish, Maura

[color:"purple"] I have been really keeping a close eye on my VV's "elders" and am relatively certain that 78/79 is the normal age of death in all of my villages.
I have one easy and one hard mode, the other three on normal. I don't strive for double masters, and apart from training them in their teens, I pretty much leave them to it, and only change their career for breeding or healing. Although have plenty of doctors so I don't even do that now.
Today, I accidently got my 78 yr. old Master Doctor Eibhlinn (Irish for Evelyn, pronounced E-vlin) pregnant. I was placing potential daddy on someone else and he/I literally brushed against her. Anyway, I was really hoping she would make it through to second delivery state (when she's no longer nursing) but sadly, she passed away with baby.
So, my own thoughts on this are pretty much the same, that late 70's is usual life span.
The most noticeable increase in life spans, I think, are when you are achieving levels 2 and 3. But once your village is established, and depending on how hard a task master you are, to a certain extent, life after 79 is very rare indeed.
Just thought I'd share,
Best of Irish, Maura

Unfortunately, gohill, I only started noticing what I think maybe misleading info on the stats pages regarding age after my games were established and after the cemetary was full.
I'm loathe to delete one of my games to do some kind of control study as yourself and Jer are, but in any case, it's very hard to track ages of death once the cemetary is full. I've checked the log files and while they state when someone has died, they don't mention the age. That's a strange ommission when every berry and sneeze, joke, haha, is listed, but not age at death. It's hard to check the log files anyway as there's so much minutiae on it, it makes for very, very boring reading, haha!!
I'm surprised you're villagers live into their 80's on a regular basis as you are probably more of a "controlling" master then I am, haha, but obviously they are made of stronger stuff then mine.
Been monitoring them pretty closely for the last few weeks, as I said, and still none have lived beyond 79.
I hope the aging of VV's is handled better in VV2, I'm working on a few ideas which I will post when I've sorted them out. Also, I don't want to duplicate too much of what's already been mentioned.
By the way, have you tried out the "private" messaging available on this forum?
Sorry for going on a bit, one of my dogs has been sick all day and I'm keeping a close eye on her and typing at the same time, oh, she's looking really miserably at me now, poor pet...

That event happened to one of my villagers, Pakwa, where she goes back to being a kid. She was about 25 when that happened and she was nursing at the time. She went back to being a 4 year old. Now she is back to 26 and is almost done nursing. The funny thing is, she was a twin, and her sister Penyo is 47. If I were Penyo, I'd be mad...

My oldest villager has just died at the ripe old age of 87, I was really sad to lose him too, he was a great worker, always finding something to do. You never caught him 'relaxing' or doing 'nothing' - I'm really going to miss him!

Guess what just checked into one of my games and as always checked the statistics section. Apparantly sometime overnight i had a villager that survived to 104!!! Coz that is what my Oldest Villager section says!!! Only problem is, I can't see who it is, coz my graveyard is full, so no more headstones....... But 104!! Can't believe I missed it.......
The same thing happened to me. Except it wasn't overnight.
But I've been deluding myself, or assumed (and you know what they say about that!!). Anyway, for some reason, I thought that the eldest of the villagers died first (except with an event or pox or something outside the norm). I have a normal established village running, and as I'm a bit "preoccupied" with the "age thing" have been careful about my elders.
You know, taking a little extra care of them, using the "magic bush" (although doesn't seem magical). Anyway, I had an elderly Master Doctor, Dr. Liam, aged 79. The next two in age were both master doctors as well, aged 74. I wasn't as concerned about them because I thought that Liam would die first as he was the eldest of the three.
Anyway, the 74 yr. olds died together (not twins) and Liam was still doddering around.
I so wanted him to make his 80th birthday, so I went to pick him up to eat some magic fruit and have a "spa" treatment in the lagoon, and literally as my "hand" lifted him up he disappeared, well actually died, right there in my hand!!!
I am feeling more then a bit guilty, thinking if only I'd left him alone and not picked him up, maybe he'd still be alive!!
I still feel a little sad about Liam and hope that the aging of villagers improves in the next VV2. I posted some thoughts and suggestions about this on the "suggestions and improvements" thread any maybe Arthur and co. will be able to take them on board.
Anyway, poor Dr. Liam, R.I.P.
Had to share,
Best of Irish, Maura

Y'know, it has never occurred to me to take villagers to the magic fruit. Has been been known to make any of them live longer? I just tried it with a couple of those in a game I'm playing. Apart from "Enjoying Magic Fruit" appearing in the actions field, nothing seemed to happen.

Yes, gohill, I think the berry bush is a "dud" in that department as well.
The one thing I hope in the new VV2 is that aging/death will be handled a bit better. I've posted some sggestions regarding this on the "suggestions/improvements" thread, which I'm sure that Arthur and Co. have already thought of, but no harm in suggesting things.
I put as a suggestion that the health status bar should show more then just elderly. Maybe weakening, then gravely ill (can't be healed) before they actually die. This way you would have some warning.
This could also connect to the problem of elderly ladies/gents breeding, because if they are weakened they won't be able to breed, so no more 75 yr. old ladies with triplets, haha!!
I also suggested a Retired option for career, then they could wind down and play with children, teach trainee teens, tend garden, etc.
It's probably too late fo these suggestions, but if they are not incorporated in VV2, uhh, maybe VV3, oh yes, definitely addicted, haha!!
Just thought I'd share,
Best of Irish,
Maura

Tried feeding 3 of my villagers 'magic fruit' and they've just died aged 90,91 and 92 - the 3 oldest so far! Could be coincidence but those I didn't feed with the fruit all died in late 70s and early 80s.

Hey GKitten, My questions are, how often did you feed them the fruit, and how old were they when you started? That one I fed for four straight hours was 62 when I started him on it and he died at 74. The time I put into that first experiment and the dissapointing results... go figure I didn't try with anyone else.

Hi Gohill, I just fed them a couple of times when they were in their late 60's - I also gave them a couple of swims in the 'pure magical water of the lagoon!' - maybe it was a combination of the two that did the trick!

Tried feeding 3 of my villagers 'magic fruit' and they've just died aged 90,91 and 92 - the 3 oldest so far! Could be coincidence but those I didn't feed with the fruit all died in late 70s and early 80s.
How often did you feed them? Once or more than that? I'm trying differant ways to get mine to live longer.

Well, I feed all my elders with the magic fruit and give them "lagoon" time. I start in their late 60's and continue until they die. I don't do it as gohill and others do, hourly or anything like that. Just when I first open the game, check on my elders first and give them their "treat".
But it hasn't worked at all, they are still dying in late 70's. Someone in RA, I think, suggested that the longer you play the game, the less chance of longevity. I doubt if that's true, but, I still wonder how many players actually "see" these very elderly VV's working around the village or is it all about the stats page??
Anyway,

I've done various "experiments" with my villagers.. just about the time I come up with a set theory, it gets debunked. There are some of us who speculated that age is pre-programed, assuming you've got all levels of medicine, the lagoon, the g.c., the majical fruit.. you've bought everything you can and solved all the puzzles you can to increase their potential life-span - after that, they die when they die, feeding them the fruit and/or putting them in the lagoon will not increase this. Realize it takes only seconds for a villager to eat the fruit, would then take him to the study the cactus, pick him up and make him eat fruit again and again. Say it takes 10 sec. to eat the fruit and 20 sec. to study the cactus (there were unsuccessful attempts and factoring those in to the 20 sec. to study). So, that's eating the fruit twice every minute.. 120 times per hour .. for four hours.. approximately 480 times. Seems to me, if you have a villager eat the fruit 480 times, if that doesn't increase their life-span past 74 yrs old.... someone more obssesive than I am can try. Besides that, had villagers die in their 80's who never touched the fruit. There are times I pick up an elderly villager and toss them into the lagoon. That's because there is no retirement and want them to stop working... they've done enough. Yeah, must admit, have had them munch on the majical fruit a few times as well... no one has lived past 83. AND...hahahaha... everyone who has lived past 79, neither had a spa treatment or ate the fruit. Ever since I started the lagoon/fruit therapy, they've died in their 70's. go figure.

I had a villager live to 101 in a game where I didn't try to do anything to increase their lifespan.
Wish I knew which villager it was!

A lot of us have very elderly ages on the stats page, I have one at 98 and another at 96! But one question I, and many others have is, did you actually see your elder working in the village prior to his death or was he a just a number on the stats page??

No the oldest I've seen working was in his mid 80's (87 I think). The supposedly really old villager died during a weekend when I'd left my laptop at my brothers house (he has a game in one of my slots).

Hi Trin, you may have noticed a few of us from RA were really interested in this whole "age" thing, gohill is still doing "trials" on this!! Keep it up, gohill!!
I don't know if you had you're laptop, whether or not, you would have seen your "very elderly" VV or not, but, it's just a question that some of us have raised.
I still think it's an incredibly rare event to have VV's in there 90's and over...and in all honesty, it's almost too painful to see them creeping around at 66 (youngish nowadays) never mind when they're in there 80's and older, haha!!!
I know it's silly, but I feel for them, trying to drag themselves around the place, taking forever to get from A to B!!
I posted my thoughts on this in the suggestions/improvements thread and also mentioned a few things on this thread (a couple of pages back) which could improve the way aging is handled. I'm certain Arthur and co. (are you listening, haha!!) will find some way to "help the aged" in VV2 and treat the elders with a little more kindness and respect.
By the way, been to Australia, beautiful, beautiful country to visit....

Yeah it gets very sad to see your formerly hale and hearty villagers doddering around...I wish there was someway I could retire them, heee!
When I was younger we went overseas for three months during which we lived in Europe. We had two weeks in which we were able to go and visit Ireland and the UK...well to my great GREAT disappointment we went to London first and all promptly got sick (from the shocking pollution I reckon) and couldn't make it to Ireland. I was really upset, it was probably our only chance to get there...well not to worry...I've got big plans to take my hubby and kids overseas one day and Ireland is first on the list (I really want to visit Dragonhill Underhold...what a thrill that would be)!

Unfortunately, my games crashed and burned so the research will take even MORE time. Ah vell... such is life. I'm too obsessive to just give up. I'm also CURIOUS... yeah, that's it, sounds better. Personally, though I LOVE having a runner.. when that runner turns elderly, it's a shock. I can barely look at them anymore. I wish it wasn't so drastic, like they go from running to the normal walk instead of a crawl.

I agree with gohill, it's pre-programmed. In all my games no one have crossed the 80s, even if I did all I had to do for them to live older, the lagon, magic fruits and let them do what they want. Nothing to do they always die before 80s. Maybe it's only the luck.
