There is something you must do to release the water pressure before you can fix the hose.

How weird! I've never had anyone fix the hose or have to do that!

...and you know what else perplexes me? In the images files, what are these never seen, never used files for? Examples are: hummingbirdstrip.png, puddles.png, algae.png, birdhStrip1.png, candlestrip.png, dragonflies.png, and foam.png. If I've ever seen or used any of these, I don't remember! Are they from an earlier version of the game?

Fixing the hose is something that I usually do soon after I start a new game, once the proper item is available in the store. The hose must be repaired before you can do several other tasks in the game.

If you've fixed the hose without needing to reduce the water pressure before you were lucky. Probably someone else in the house was doing something that had already reduced it.

Some of the file names you mention were used in VV games. VF is based on the VV games and some files have remained. At least one of the names is that of a VF file, though.

If your hose is still unrepaired, then you apparently have not yet done these things either, as they require the fixed hose to complete:

Actually, some of those are used.
The rest, well... I don't know either! lol (another is "outsideChair" which is most likely from a puzzle/trophy that got removed.)
