Pepe the turtle was just like any other turtle in the world: green, had a hard shell, and moved at a very slow pace. His family did not keep him inside a cage, for, even if Pepe attempted escape, he would do so very slowly, and they could catch him. However, much unlike other turtles, Pepe would have numerous adventures when his owners were not home. And they were not at home during the hours of 8:00AM to 3:30PM. The parents had jobs, and the children had school. And the house was Pepe's playground when the family left. Pepe recorded these adventures in a journal (He was a very smart turtle), which he stashed inside the shed, for no one goes in there except when the oven has began smoking.

Pepe's Adventure Log 1 - The Red Turtle

Pepe had just been told goodbye for the last time, and the mother of his family (Pepe believed he owned the family, instead of the other way around) closed the door. The house now belonged to Pepe the turtle.

Pepe decided that he would begin looking for a mysterious red turtle he had sen the children play with outside. They had been bouncing this red turtle, who remained in it's shell, and Pepe wanted to know how such a thing was possible.

Although Pepe was a smart turtle, he did not often think things through. What he was unaware of was that this red, round object was no turtle; instead, it was a shiny red ball. As Pepe rounded the mountain in the living room (A couch), he saw it, the red "turtle", sitting in the kitchen. Pepe approached the "turtle" slowly, as most turtles do, curious of it's origins.

Pepe greeted it in turtle language, but the "turtle" did not respond. It could not, for it was, after all, a ball, not a turtle, but Pepe did not know of this. He asked it if it could speak, but the "turtle", once again, did not answer.

Pepe believed this new "turtle" was ignoring him. He bumped his head against the "turtle", and it rolled off, bumping down the stairs of the home, coming to a stop at the door.

Pepe decided that this "turtle" was presenting him with a challenge; getting down the stairs. So, very slowly, Pepe began to crawl down the stairs.

After quite a while, Pepe finally made it to the door, and asked the "turtle" how it made it downstairs so quickly. The "turtle" didn't answer.

"Well," Pepe thought, "If this new turtle plans to ignore me, so be it! I have much better things to do in my time."

And so, Pepe began to crawl up the stairs once again. And, being a turtle, it took him quite some time. So, after reaching the top of the stairs, he crawled into the living room, knocking the remote off the table. He turned the TV to his favorite show, and began watching, wondering how such colorful people, animals, and environments fit into the mysterious picture-box he always watched.

That's when he heard the door open. The children and parents were back. Pepe turned off the picture-box, and hid in his shell, giving the impression he had been doing nothing.

"Hey!" The youngest daughter, Dakota, exclaimed, "Our ball! How did it get down here?"

And Pepe, still certain the shiny red thing was a turtle, wondered why it's name was "Our ball".

Pepe's Adventure Log 2 - The Red Spray-Thingy and the Circle in the Yard

It was now a boiling hot summer, so the family had no reason whatsoever to leave the house. Of course, this meant a little less adventuring for Pepe, but they would all go outside to barbecue or to play in the large circle outside (Swimming pool), so he did have some time to himself.

One time, while going to retrieve this journal, Pepe stumbled upon a mysterious red object. It did not seem to be the "turtle" that kept ignoring him, instead, it was a cylinder with an odd hose attached. Pepe occasionally sniffed at this hose, but no water came out for him to drink. He figured it must be a broken hose, so he decided to leave it alone most of the time.

One day, some smoke arose from the oven. Pepe always watched the kitchen, for it was his favorite room, and when he saw the oven smoking, he thought some creature was inside, a creature using the oven as a sauna.

His family, however, quickly began a commotion at the oven being used as a sauna for some creature. Bengetto, the father, brought in the mysterious red cylinder from before, and, with seemingly no trouble at all, caused it to spray mysterious white stuff, almost like snow, at the oven. Pepe figured it must have been suds to clean the creature inside while he relaxed, so he simply crawled off.

However, he was still very curious as to how the father had made the hose spray and how he, Pepe, couldn't. So, one day, while everyone was inside, Pepe wandered into the yard, and to the little shed. He investigated the red cylinder carefully, wondering if he had missed something, but there was nothing that Pepe could flip, squeeze, or push that seemed to make the hose spray the snow-like white stuff again. So, he left the cylinder, apparently called a "fire extinguisher" (Pepe read this on a label on the cylinder while looking for a switch), to have a nap after it's furious spraying of white stuff from earlier in the week.

While Pepe wandered back to the house, he became curious again; this time at the circle. He knew it had always been there, but he wondered what was inside the circle that made his family become so excited, especially during the summer, when it was so hot. So, when he saw his owners head out to the strange circle, he decided to follow them, albeit slowly, to see what was so exciting.

After Dakota had climbed the ladder, Pepe waited patiently to find out what the commotion was about, when he was suddenly splashed by water! Pepe shook all of the water off of him, and, deciding that this mysterious circle must not like him very much, went inside to sleep underneath a lamp.

Pepe's Adventure Log Three - The Shiny Thing

Pepe was becoming an old turtle. He had been the pet of Dakota's children, and Dakota's daughter's children, and he was beginning to run out of adventures; now that so much time had gone by, he was almost never out of the family's sight. Indeed, Pepe had roamed the house for many, many years.

One day, while Pepe was looking around the shed (After running into the rude, red, bouncy turtle again), he spotted a hole in the fence. There was even something in it Pepe had never seen before; something nice and shiny. Pepe had always had a fondness for shiny things, so, making sure no one was around, he crawled (even slower than he had been before) into the hole, and was never seen again.

The family was upset; they loved Pepe more than anything in the world. So, after waiting many years for the turtle to return, they decided to buy a cat, which they named "Whiskers".

One day, Whiskers stumbled upon Pepe's old journal, which had a message written inside of it, with the date of the last time anyone had seen Pepe written in the corner; "Something shiny behind the fence. Just going to look..."

And so, Whiskers decided to fill Pepe's journal with even more adventures, and, when Whiskers decided to go, so did Marco, and Travis, and many other cats, dogs, and even turtles. Pepe had given himself a legacy; and now, the rest of the family pets were having adventures of their own. Of course, no one forgot to credit Pepe the Turtle for giving them the idea in the first place.
