I've been playing with fish since my birthday the beginning of the month, and am totally obsessed by it.

I've found the seven magic's and over 280 varsities in my first game, before finding this board. It's nice finding other folks obsessed with the game! (I have a hard time remembering it's a game! I love these little fishies!)

I've started about five games now, and developed a sure fire way to get a game going quickly, and now I'm working on finding the rest of the fish.

I've noticed there are, what I call, three "True Type" fish and three "True Type" fins ... from which all other fish can quickly be formulated. I have formulas for all the fish, using at most four generations to achieve whatever one I want.

I have 'fin formulas' and 'body formulas', and when they are combined any fish can be created. After establishing a tank with all research complete, I can grow the magics in four generations IF I have all nice "True Type Fish"... that being a beta, shark and spotanus, each with three fin types ... greenfin, twinfin and silky. With those nine fish the tank world is MINE!!!!!!!!!

The tricky part is setting up the tank with all research, while at the same time buying enough eggs to find the nine "True Types". Once that is achieved the rest is just time and patience.

I'm thinking of putting up a webpage for the game, with pictures of various tank setups, and I'm wondering if links are allowed on the board. It wouldn't have to be a clickable link... just the cut and paste type.

I'm devoting WAAYYYYYYYYYYY too much time to this 'game' .... but being a computer geek from way back, I just have to say that this is the neatest game I've ever played!

Right now I am in the process of raising pure strains of each type of fish, inbreeding all the fin types into that one type of fish. ie ... fruitfish in all fin variations. Lots of breeding and lots of time, but lots of fun and pretty little fishies! I want to capture screen shots of each fish type in it's fin varieties and put them on a webpage. Would this interest anyone besides me?

Hi!
Links are allowed of course!

We have started setting up a Fish Tycoon Guide on these forums and if you put up a webpage we would love to link to it from here.

Hi I also figured out that from two each of your "true types" I can find all of the other fins or bodies in 4 or 5 generations... My first generation is different twinfin+silky=golden or Spotanus+Shark=Goldbulb, but starting with the second generation, I can also produce all fins and all bodies. (I may look to see if I find another alter 3rd true type that might give better results...)

I've also raised all of a certain body type (I've already done fruitfish and fatfish.) in my quest for finding a complete set, but didn't take pictures. I am taking pictures of the "perfect fish": spined stickfish, etc. Imay start another thread to get opinions on what they all are.

Okay......I've started a webpage for my fish! I only have four varieties completed so far, and it looks like my betas are missing a few. I may have to redo that one.

I'm leaving the silky out of each tank, since only 20 fish fit in a tank most of the time. It will be a webpage in progress... probably for quite a while! I won't have a whole lot of these lazy laid back winter days to devotee to the little guys.

I wish there were a way to convert a tank into a permanent screen saver, so we could keep our 'perfected' tanks going, and still play the game. It's sad selling old friends to look for new one.

I've not given alot of thought to finding the "Perfect Fish" yet. ...... Something else to think about!

I put the link in a signiture, but since I don't really know what I'm doing here ... or if it will work, I'll put it here too.
My Fishies Webpage

Hope that worked!

Nice site!

I can fit 21 fishies in my sale tank... So since you are using that for the display, you should be able to include Silky also...

Are you going to do screen shots of each body with one fint type?

I haven't used the screen saver, but can't you setup the screen saver in one game, and continue playing in another?

Thanks, sfrose.

I had noticed that sometimes when I sell, there are 21 fish in the selling tank, but it hadn't really dawned on me that 21 "fit". DUH! ... I'll start sticking that silky in with the rest. The Sales tank seems to give the best background for seeing all of the fins... and the least places for them to hide when I'm taking a picture. Some of them are really camera shy, it seems!

And I guess it sure would make sense to be getting pictures of the perfect fish when I have all the variations of a species right there in front of me. Another 'Duh!'.
I'll start using your list, since I don't really have a clue who goes with what ... except for the ones I like. Hummm... I should get a shot of those, too.

Whatever I'm going to do, I'd better get on the stick and run with it, as time for playing will vanish as warm weather approaches and the grass starts growing.

And about the screen savers ... I've started a couple tanks and kept them in the 'stopped' mode for a screen saver, but then I always get some new idea to try out, and end up telling the little guys "Bye Bye". ....... And of course the grandkids have a couple games they are running.

Maybe once I get all the screen shots I need, and the webpage set up, I can back off and let one game be just for show. And if I'm going to get all 21 shots of the full species, I'd better get all the games running so I can do it faster. Of course I want to complete all the fish in one game, so the stats show I've found them.

I feel like a little kid with a new Pokemon game in a gameboy, with the games stuck to my nose going "Sure, hon, I'll make dinner today ... a little later!"

I've got all my Bananafish this morning, so I'm off to take their pictures... and one of the "Flagged Bananna!"

See my other post for the update on the "perfect fish" I had a couple if mistakes in my first list.

Are you running on XP? You may be able to start the game in another user for the grandkids...

sfrose..... Yes, I'm running XP and using another user is a GREAT idea! Thanks! My grand daughter has a game on this one, so I think I'll just start another game on a different account for myself! COOL! I really like setting up the tanks ... so don't mind having to do that all over. But I'll keep one game on the one I'm running now, for sure! I've got too many fish finds on that one to stop now.

And Yep! I'm using the new list of perfect fish. I'm missing four for their pictures right now, but am breeding those.

And OOC ... Yes, I get the starters from eggs. Sometimes I have to go through LOTS of eggs to get them, but by gettting the third tank right off, and breeding a fish that goes for $20, I can usually buy eggs and still save up for the research. The nine I use are hard to come by with eggs, but usually by the time I have all my research done I have them all and can start breeding. I breed the canary firearrow .. make big buck and then set out to breed the rest.

I'm going to try to record how I do it on my webpage, if I have time, so you can check there for more details.

Right now I'm working on a tank of the the 21 perfect fish to get those last four pictures I need. I think I've gone fish nuts.

I know you've gone fish nuts!

As I said in the other thread, I think your web page is great!

BTW, what I meant by "different body types for each fin" is to do what you've been doing with the "all goldbulb" tank, but instead do an "all silky", "all "twin-fin", etc. tanks.

I'm still at the point where I'm just trying to get each speciies at least onece in a game, I I have a tank that is mostly twin-fins. That looks very weird and very alien...

Thanks sfrose! As I just put in another post, designing webpages is one of my favorite things... so right now I'm doing two of my favorite things combining the webpages with the fishies!

Okay, I see what you mean about reversing what I'm doing and having each body type with one fin. Cool. That will give me something to do "If and When" I finish the 21 the way I'm doing them. ......... Your tank of Twinfins must look pretty bizzare!

I've really just caught onto the breeding as quickly as I can do it now. I've not yet found all the fish in one game ... that's what this insane tank breeding is going to do for me, I hope. Knowning me, though, I'll get done and there will be "ONE" missing ... and I won't know WHICH one, and will have to do it all over again.

But I'm enjoying documenting what I'm doing, and am rationalizing that it's not "quite" as much a waste of time if I'm building a webpage out of all the work. .... Of course hubby still thinks he should have dinner every day. Go figure! I'm all for sending him out to get something to eat so I can quit playing.

I feel like a little kid with my nose stuck to a gameboy. .........

I'm enjoying the game ... plus this forum and the webpage building.

Oh my gosh! This game is so fun! I've gone through every post to get ideas from people. I'm having trouble getting the catfish and snouts, any ideas? I have four of the seven magic fish. I'm lacking the Oriental Goldbulb, Orange Snooper and Wasp Grouper. I've made tons of money in my original game selling the Canary Fire-arrow, Crimson Comet, and Speckled Leaffish. Once I got past the level 2 environment, my fish thrived. Now, I've got so many, I can't decide which ones to keep and which ones to sell. I just don't have enough room for all of them. I still don't have any fanned, hornet, silky or tiger. And, can't seem to get the catfish, pigmy and snout. This is just too much fun for someone my age!!!!

Hi! I agree....... way too much fun for someone my age, too!

I just put up a couple charts on my webpage, that show how I get all the body types and fins. I follow narrow formulas I've developed that work to achieve whatever end fish I trying to form. It might give you some insight as to what you can do with the fish you have to get the ones you are missing.

I've not put up much of an explanation for it yet, but hubby is INSISTING that FOOD remain in our lives and is forcing me to go shopping! ..... As for me, I could live on fish food!

JUST finally finished!

21 tanks of 21 fish giving me the 441!

After a number of hours looking for ones I'd missed (I'd forgetten a acouple of my pictures came from a different game) I finally reached 441! What a silly sense of accomplishment!

Now I want to do 21 one tanks the opposite, as sfrose suggested. All the fins on one type of fish. Guess after that there won't be much left to do but pick out my favorite fish and have pets.

There are pictures of all the fish on my website .. a tank at a time of course!

I LOVE FISH TYCOON

Wow! Congrats! Especially on doing to with only three fish trashed!

I started a new tank and bought lots of eggs, but two of you nine "breeders" are still missing...

There's is still more "research" that can be done. Average starting price for each fish? Average best selling price? What is the full set of fish that will survive (with medication and/or vitamins) without upgrading the envirnoment? etc. (I'm working on making a chart of which are the "Level 1" fish, but I imagine that you could do it faster...)

Edit: Oh, and figure out the Mutation rules!!! (either from the magic fish or the chemical...)

Thanks sfrose. I'm doing the oppostie tanks (all fis/one fin) in a new game that so far has 0 trashed fish .. I'm I'm hoping I can keep it that way through the game.

Hummmmmmmmmmm Doing the mutation rules does sound interesting. I have one more tanks setup complete and on stop... I could play with it in there and see what happens.

I've only tried the chemical a few times so far, and the Magic Grouper had me going in circles when I breed the groupers till I realized it was one of them and stirring things up! DUH!

You're welcome!

When I was recreating my own "genetic" charts, I tried to be careful to to inclide the Magic Griuper in the tank, but I'm still not sure if I managed that... (I haven't found errors, so I probably did.)

I just hadn't gotten back to play with the results of having him there...

It would be nice to see pictures of the 'perfect' fish. I'm running XP, and the game allowed me to put all 21 of the perfect fish in the same tank (my #2), as well. Any other fish I tried to move there, before 21, was forbidden, because tank was full with 20. So, I'm keeping 21 perfect fish in tank #2, and a breeding pair of all 7 magic fish in tank #1, to match up and make much moolah in the sale tank. Am bucking the prices up gradually, and now Canary Fire-Arrows are selling at $425. Broke 60k a couple hours ago, yippee!
