This is a sad poem inspired by an awful event on my first VV3 island. \:\(

Wave after wave

The Moonlighters were a happy tribe,
Hardworking, kind and clever.
Though their number seemed only small,
They oft worked hard together.

They learnt to farm the island soils,
To harvest all it's riches.
They rebuilt huts and hospitals,
Overcame several hitches.

They survived vicious thunderstorms,
Though floods destroyed their stores.
They reconstructed an alchemy lab,
And studied a mountainside door.

Uros was named the tribal chief,
And led the group so well.
He fathered several children,
Which made their numbers swell.

For nigh on twenty years they worked,
So that the tribe might thrive:
And so the city was rebuilt.
They were happy to be alive.

But one day near the shoreline,
While the fishermen stood on the beach:
The ocean started acting strange,
It seemed almost out of reach.

Then an ominous rumbling,
Filled the island air.
An awful sense of foreboding
Was apparent everywhere.

The villagers ran for their huts,
Hoping shelter to find.
But the din grew louder and louder,
They dreaded what came behind.

Suddenly the water appeared,
Angrily it rushed at the shore;
And flooded the prosperous city,
Until many villagers were no more.

Wave after wave the waters came,
Sweeping many out to sea.
Those remaining huddled together,
Unsure what their future would be.

Eventually the waves ceased to flow,
The city was nearly destroyed.
And left on the island there seemed no soul,
No man or girl or boy.

A gentle sobbing filled the air,
And amongst the mess and chaos,
A little girl sat cuddled,
In the strong arms of Uros.

For from a tribe of thirty,
Only two have survived,
On the awful day the tsunami
Hit the idyllic isle.

So now Uros and his daughter,
Will set sail on the sea,
And hope the tide will take them,
To where other people will be.

We’ll leave them at the end of this passage,
And shed some simple tears,
For the tribe of the Moonlighters,
Who lived only for twenty years.

The End

(Dedicated the hard working "Moonlighters", lost but not forgotten.)
