what is a moderator and is there a way to become one?
ive heard of them and seen them, but i do not know what they are.
could someone tell me all about them?

Hi Xilo, It is a person granted special powers to enforce the rules of an Internet forum (message board), such as this one we are using now.

I don't think anyone should become a moderator, unless they work for LDW. But that's my opinion.

I'll tell you one thing before anybody asks for ops; I modded two IRC channels and one large role-playing forum, and I can guarantee you that asking to be a mod is one of the best ways to prove that you aren't suited to be a mod.

In a forum of this size, I agree with Happy; I don't think more mods than the current staff are needed. There's no reason to draw more mods from the pool of posters.

On this site, there are five people who moderate, three administrators (Carla, Arthur and LadyCFII) and two moderators (Gamey and eyeshigh). Gamey and eyeshigh were chosen as moderators for the Fun Stuff area so that the administrators could concentrate more on the forums dedicated to the games as well as their work on VV3. In general, moderators are always well-known and well-respected adult users who have been active members for quite a while.

Moderators enforce the rules. They generally go through the posts, editing them as needed. Inappropriate content would be deleted, way off-topic posts would be deleted, certain comments edited to include Spoiler tags, threads which belong in a different area in the forums would be moved, etc. Those are just some examples I've seen done on this site.
