Today was the second time I have experienced disappearing items. I received a jewellery box from a Towne and when I went to place it on my night stand it vanished. I looked outside and in my storage but it is nowhere to be found.

Also would it be possible to place furniture back into your inventory so it can be sold. I don't need two couches and would like to sell one back to the store.

You can sell furniture back to the store. Drag it down to the bottom of the screen where your inventory is and it will show up when you open your inventory.

I have found that when placing items on top of tables, etc., things, like the lamp, get placed behind the table, nightstand, dresser... Move the item on which you are trying to place another thing, and your missing stuff may appear.

Also, if your house is not fully enlarged, you may find it next time you expand a room.
