Our Android tablet (Tesco Hudl) is faulty and is to be replaced but we have made significant in game purchases that we need to transfer over to the new replacement if we are to continue playing.

How can we transfer the in game purchases over to the new device please? We understand that the app itself is free but we won't want to continue playing if we can't transfer over the game data or payments.

Thanks,

VirFam, I answered your Support Request about this same issue earlier today.

For anyone else who has the same question, if you are playing the game that you downloaded from the Google Play store, it is vitally important that you use Google's backup and automatic restore feature to restore your game exactly as you left it (including in-app purchases)

Instructions on this are found below:

We have implemented Google's backup and automatic restore feature in Virtual Families 2: Our Dream House, (in version 1.3.0.1 or later), so you will be able to restore your game progress on your new device, as long as you have properly set up backup and restore on the device you are replacing and updated your game to the most recent version.

Before you stop using your old device, you should make sure that you have enabled the backup and automatic restore features. To turn on automatic backups, choose Settings > Privacy and check the "Back up my data" and "Automatic restore" checkboxes, making sure that you have set the appropriate account(s) for backup. If you don't see those options on your device, you are likely running an older version of the Android operating system and won't be able to back up your game data from your old device and restore it to your new one.

-----

Virtual Families 2: Our Dream House uses two different accounts to manage game data: Google+ for managing the game's Goals (Achievements) and your Google Play account for download/installation, in- app purchases, and automatic backup/restore of game data. These accounts do not necessarily use the same email address and password, and they operate independently and work with different facets of the game. You should make sure that you have both of them set up properly on your device.

Here's how they each operate with respect to Virtual Families 2: Our Dream House:

- Google+ keeps track of your Achievements, called Goals in the game, but it does not back up your game data. Achievements are automatically synced to any Virtual Families 2: Our Dream House game that you have running on a device that is logged into your Google+ account. You can read more about Google+ Achievements on Google's site: https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/3129940?hl=en

- Your Google Play account is the account that you use in the Google Play Store to purchase and download content for your device. You use your Google Play account when you set up automatic backup and restore in your device's settings. This is what will save your game progress, families, purchases, etc.

Both of these accounts, set up together and properly, will restore your game to your new device, exactly as you left it on the old device (or on the same device before it was removed).

-----

Once you have made sure that both accounts needed for backup and restore are properly set up, it's important that you pause the game, since there may be a delay before you get the game set up on the new device. To do that, select Menu, then Settings, set Pause Game to "Yes," and tap Done. Verify that the words, "GAME PAUSED" appear on the screen, then quit the game. You should also ensure that you have an active Internet connection on your device, or the game may not be backed up to the cloud, and you may lose recent progress as a result.

Once you have your new device, make sure that it is also properly set up for backup and automatic restore (both accounts). After you have made sure that both your old device and your new device have automatic backup and restore enabled, you can log in to your Google account on your new Android device and download the game again. When you open the game, your data will be automatically restored, and you can continue playing from where you left off.

If you are uncertain how to use these features, please consult your device's owner's manual or online help for further information on setup and using Google's automatic backup and restore features.

Edit Reason: added information about both accounts needed.
