" What d'ya want tonight, Kai?" Jade crossed her long legs. She was a born runner and a great storyteller.
" An old, old story, Jay! Make it long, too!" Kai was Jade's little cousin. She too, had a knack for telling stories, but she was ALOT better at listening. No-one ever told her off for not paying attention while Cheif Leah was talking, unlike most village kids, who usually got at least three warnings per day.
" Okay, Kai, just don't beg me to go on," Jade smiled," It's not the longest story on Isola, you know." And so, Jade began her story.
***************************************************************
There were once two tribes, Magic and Nature. They lived together in ballance, and peace. There was a special ceremony, one of the ways of the ballance. One Princess of Nature was united with a Prince of Magic every year. But one year, the peace of the tribes broke. Two people from the same faction broke the sacred rule. A terrible disaster happened, causing the people of the to flee, leaving the city in a crumbling ruin.
***************************************************************
Jade paused, and Kai took this oppertunity to ask a question.
" Then what happened, Jay? Then WHAT!?"
" Well..." Jade began...

No-one really knows what happened next, eccept that it was in ruins when the new immigrants came.
*****************************************************************
" Jay, who were the first immigrants?" Kai asked.
" Our ancestors." Jade said simply," And some of their close friends. But Kai, do you want me to continue, or not?"
" Please do." Kai sat down on the grass, but suddenly burst out: " You mean like Great-Great-Great-Grandfather Raraku, and his wife, Aloha?!"
" Oh, yes, they have a part in this." Jade smiled secretly and continued.
*****************************************************************
The group's raft crashed, washing the occupants ashore. Their blood attracted sharks, so they climbed out of the dangerous waters, and onto the beach. Aloha and Raraku were the first to crawl up and look around. And they immidiately spotted a huge ampitheater. But what caught their attention was not the size of the place, but the beautiful robe that lay on a hook, protected from the rain. First, Arriki tried on the robe, but it didn't fit her. Then Toki, Maya, Waya, Raraku, even little Jon and Callypso tried it. Yasa tried but she couldn't put her baby down. Then Aloha tried it. To her delight and horror, the robe fit...

" Jay- was she really cheif?" Kai stared at the empty hook, as if the robe was right there in the ampitheater, when in truth, Cheif Leah was wearing it.
" Yes, and she used her powers wisely, like Cheif Leah does. But the storie's not over yet, Kai, so sit down. There, tha- NOT THERE, KAI! Kai was about to sit on a frog; scared out of it's wits, it hopped away, while Jade roared with laughter.
" Let's... Continue... The... Story..." Jade gasped.
*****************************************************************
Soon everyone was assighned to a job, but Raraku failed to harvest enough honey for everyone, so Aloha created magic food to save her people from starvation. Even when the tribe prospered, she kept watch. Then tradgety struck. She never came back from her visit to relitives on the west side. They only ever found bits of her canoe, and her cheif robe.
*****************************************************************
" Jay, what d'ya think happened?" Kai asked.
" Well-" Jade began; she was thinking of what to say when they heard a yell...
" Jade, come quick!"...

Jade could see Kai's brother, Kontiki, running towards them. He looked like a parrot, both his arms waving madly.
" It's Chief Leah!!! She's been bitten by something! The healers need you!"
Jade sat up in one swift motion. " Was the bite fatal?!" she sounded concerned and histerical.
" We think it might be, Jade, but they need all healers and apprintaces for the healing. C'mon, we mustn't hesitate!"
While Jade ran off towards the medical hut, Kontiki bent down close to Kai.
" Kai, this is no time to fool around. Jade will have to continue her story late- Kai, please! Jade'll be back,'k?"
Kai nodded, and Kontiki dashed after Jade, for like her, he was an apprintace of healer Romi.
Kai waited, solemn and scared, but one thought stayed in her head: How did Kontiki know about the story? Did Jay tell him? It was near midnight that Jade finally came back.
" Jay, is she allright?" Kai asked; she knew the Chief was not, but it didn't hurt to ask...
" Kai..." Jade took her hands; Jade's were shaking badly, and for once, Kai was scared. " She's... gone."...

The next day, the villagers gathered around the robe. The news of Chief Leah's passing had spread fast. The air was filled with shouts of: "Move over!!!" and " Out of the way!!!"
Jade and Kontiki tried on the robe, when the crowd had finally dispersed. It fit neither. Some of the braver younger kids tried it on. The robe was too baggy for them all.
" Go on, Kai." Jade pushed Kai so she was facing the robe. " It's your turn."
Kai drew in a breath. Did she really want to give up her normal life? But then she remembered that almost everyone of age had tried it on. So she took hold of the robe, and with Kontiki's help she got it on. The robe fit perfectly.
The crowd ran in, cheering and stomping. Kai could see Lady Viale coming towards her.
" Kai! KAI!" she called, her voice ringing over the noise. "It's time to start your duty as Chief!"

15 years later, Kai stood on the cliff, watching her tribe prosper. She was a different person now. A person of importance, and a mother to a small boy. Kontiki the 2nd.
Changes had overcome her village, and decicions weren't always the best. Nevertheless, Kai was proud. Very proud.
And that is why we are here today. Jade finished her small history lesson to Kontiki, and strided to Kai's side.
" You make a good chief." she whispered to Kai. " We're all proud."
" Thanks." Kai smiled. I'm glad you are."

THE END
