The Three Dynasties of Isola

The Samej Dynasty

A long time ago, near our home by the sea,
I went for a stroll with my dear family.
I, Samej, and my dearest wife Mini,
Along with our son Edward, and her brother Eddie.
He with wife Darla, and daughter Pauline.
Our dearest friend Paul was along just to sing.

All of a sudden we heard claps of thunder!
The earth started shaking, and filled us with wonder!
Up in the sky we saw the red flames!
Then down came the rocks, that fell just like rain!
We ran and we ran till we came to a raft.
We all jumped right on and pushed off with a dash!

For days we did float, with little to do.
We had no provisions, and had to drink dew.
We caught a few fish, so we had some sushi,
But for days we just drifted out there on the sea.
The sun was so hot, it burned our fair skin.
Our lips were so parched, and really felt thin.

Oh glorious day! What have we found here?
This isn’t the home which we once held dear!
This is a new place. A new island home!
What will we find here? Will we be all alone?
Just one more day for the breeze to blow fair
And tomorrow, we hope, carry us there.

Look! Here’s a well! And there stands a shack!
It really looks battered, but what more could we ask?
What’s this strange table, all loaded with stuff?
Hey look! There’s some berries! And some funny brown stuff.
We ate, and we drank, till we could hold no more.
And that’s how we ended our first day on this shore.

I as the eldest, and a seer of things, kept hearing a voice
That made my head ring. “I am the great Rom! I see all things!
I’ll guide you through life, if you promise some things.”
“What shall I promise? What do you want?
If it’s riches of gold, I’m afraid we have naught.”
“I care not for riches! Can you not tell?
I want only a promise, that the soil you’ll till.

You must be good, and kind to all things.
You must not take more, than your villagers need.
You must work real hard, at all that you do.
If you swear this, I’ll help you get through!”
I promised the Great Rom (some call guiding hand)
We would do all he asked, so we could stay on this land.

Editors Note: You can read the story of ROM here.

He first taught us science, and to uncover the well.
He helped clear a stream and a magic pool fill.
He showed us a garden, and helped make it bloom!
He showed us some farm land and made the crops boom.
We learned how to fish and a temple restore.
We carved him a statue, in our home by the shore.
He taught one how to heal, those who are sick.
Another he taught to work wood and brick.

He showed us magic fish to increase our birth rate.
He then sent a child who’s powers were great!
This child brought forth wonders we call butterflies!
They made a plant bloom, and made children sigh.
He unblocked a cave, narrow and dark.
Then this great child, just went on a lark!

Now when I was grown old, and hobbled with age,
I got one more visit from this, my great sage.
He showed me a treasure, the likes of which was unknown!
Then he showed me the future of this garden home.
He told me that I would have one more son.
His name is to be Hong, for his time was soon come.

The Hong Dynasty

My name is Hong, and this is my tale.
When I think of it, my chest starts to swell!
My new bride Kini, on our wedding night.
Decided we’d go, to the cave, out of sight.
She lead me on in, with her velvet soft hand,
And said we could sleep in here on the sand.

Well, before we both knew it, Kini had slipped!
I reached out to grab her, but we fell over a lip!
We slid down a stream to a great water fall!
We landed quite gently, though we were both appalled!
What is this place? To where have we come?
What’s that strange noise? Why it’s scared children!

I wanted to leave! To climb up the fall!
I grabbed Kinis’ hand, and we started to crawl.
Then a strange voice, quite filled my head!
I trembled in fright, and thought I was dead!
“I am the Great Rom! Stop where you are!
No one will hurt you! I brought you this far!”

“I am the Great Rom, and I’m you’re guiding hand.
Now listen to me, and stop where you stand!
I knew your wise father, the gentlest of men.
He kept his word to me, and I helped him to win.
Have you not heard his story? Have you not heard of me?
I gave great success to his whole family!”

“I’m sorry Great Rom! I know who you are.
My father Samej told me how he came from afar.
How he landed here, with his dear family.
And how much you helped create a new home by the sea.
I just never believed, what I thought were wild tales.
Though I did once meet the Gold Child who is quite unlike me.”

“Well now you know better, and I have some great plans,
For you and young Kini, in this wilderness land.
You see those young kids? They’re all really scared.
They’ve been abandoned, because no one cared!
You and young Kini will take over here.
You both will raise them, and fill them with cheer.

I will stay here, for as long as you need.
To help heal these kids,And make you great indeed!
You and young Kini, will make history!
I promise you this, just you wait and see!
Now get over there, And comfort those kids!
Go catch some fish! Build a fire in that pit!
You’ve plenty of work, so just dig right in!
I’ll help make you great, But you’ll work to the end!”

Now the tale of our saga, and what we did here,
Is already recorded in a place we hold dear.
To read all our story, You can go here. .
You can read all about us, and how things took shape.
Here in this story, I’ll summarize to save space.

We learned how to fish, and pick coconuts too.
We learned how to farm, and make a great stew.
We learned more of science than in our old home.
We learned how to build shelters, and spears made with stone.
We made a fun scarecrow to frighten the birds!
When Kini first saw it, she was quite lost for words!

We found the gong pieces, and assembled it well.
We had a great life, that makes my heart swell.
We had many children, down through the years.
You’ll hear more about them, but this tale ends here.

The Eloc Dynasty

My name is Eloc, great grandson of Hong,
Descendent of Samej, and here is my song.
One day I was walking along the sand beach,
When the Great Rom came to me, to give me a speech.
“Young Eloc, I need you.” Said Rom in my head.
“Now don’t be afraid, there’s little to dread.”

I kindly asked of him, what had he in mind?
He said a great journey if I didn’t mind.
“Mind?” Asked I, bursting with glee.
“Do you mean from this place you’ll help me to flee?”
“I see I picked wisely. Quite eager are you.
Are you sure you’ll be up, to what I ask of you?”

The plans were then started, provisions were stocked.
A raft was constructed, though some people mocked.
I married a girl as eager as me. We picked our companions,
Oh so carefully. We needed workers with skills partly formed.
But some children snuck on, under cover of storm!
This was not expected, but we couldn’t return.
We were at the winds mercy, as the sea tossed and churned.

At last we landed, on a beach quite unknown.
But then Rom came to us, and said “Welcome Home.
Here things will be different, as you will soon see.
This place holds great magic, and beauty to me.
This is the place where Isola was formed.
Those who first found it, did dare Nature scorn.
But this is a chance to re found their ways,
And bring Isola back to her magical days.

Here Magic and Nature rule what must be done.
You’ll have to pay heed, or all will be undone.
You must each of you try to become the new chief.
And if it’s young Eloc, I’ll feel some relief!
For even I cannot say which one it will be.
But it’s best to young Eloc, I can talk easily.”

I wasn’t selected, but instead was my wife!
We got quite excited to start our new life.
Rom was ok, because as he said, he still can talk to her,
When she’s sleeping in bed. If not he can tell me,
And I pass it on. I think this is funny, but not so to Rom.
We asked him if even he knew of this place? He said “Very little,
It’s mixed up in time space.” He said “This I can tell you,
There’s a Secret City, under the mountain, close by the sea.”

We labored and labored for so many years!
Sometimes the hard tasks would drive us to tears.
We replanted the orchard, and survived on honey,
Till we drove off the sharks to get fish that we need.
We restored a great lab, for scientific research.
We built a hospital, with beds made of birch.
We restored the pool, to swim and recoup,
And found aromatherapy, for when kids have the croup.

We re stood the great statue, and found all the keys.
We opened the Sun Room, though I was too old to see.
The new chief found out how to turn the sun dial,
Till the ghosts of the past, appeared for awhile.
They explained what had happened, in the time now gone past.
How the problems all started, that wrecked what they had.
They said that they hope, now all will be well.
