I have a villager called Scooby. He has just came out of being a kid and i havent taught him anything and he hasn't learnt from his parents. hE taught himself how to build (adept builder) and when someone is sick he rushes up to heal them.

Even if a villager doesn't inherit skills from a parent, they will often "teach" themselves a skill. If you have a skill (say farming) checked for them as a child, when they turn 14 they will likely attempt to learn that skill.

Often, a villager will spontaneously teach him/her self a new skill if it fits their "likes." For example if a child's likes include wood, that child may teach himself building, even if you set him to farm.

Research seems to be the skill most villagers will default to without guidance, followed closely by farming.

If a villager has no inherited skill, or they have inherited farming skill, I will set that villager to farm; if inherited building, I will set him/her to build. Same for inherited research skills, except they will be set to do research.
P.S. If a villager mastered a skill I will change their job. This makes it easier for them to become Esteemed Elders.
