It doesn't matter if you leave the game on or off - it will still keep going and going.

I leave my game going all night -- just like during the day when I'm not at home to play it. I had a problem with my first game(on "hard") before we'd gotten to farming -- the berry bush ran out, but I wasn't there to switch foragers to scientists, and the food ran out before I got enough tech to farm.

I set the replacement game to half speed until I got to farming -- they've been on normal speed all day with no problems.

I like leaving it on so those scientists collect tech points when I'm not looking

With a "new" village there is a chance of losing all your villagers over night. As squawky has said, once you get your village to a point where they are self sufficient, you can keep it on 2x for several days and they will be fine. On easy once you have level two harvesting you should be ok just over night. On hard, they might make it over night with only level two harvesting, but there is still a good chance you will lose them all.

I have been pausing my game at night with no issues until last night..I checked everyone...(90 villagers and lots of kids 2-17)
150K Tech and 12K food....
When I started the game this morning and years had passed (while on pause)I had 750K Tech and 110K food... I lost 5 villagers to illness and have about 5 more real weak...it's like pause when faster than 2X...how is that possible???

Did you happen to leave the game on the menu screen overnight, and then "unpause" it in the morning before clicking Play?

I asked that, because LDW's real-time games are designed to update the world state based upon the game speed setting at the time you click Play. Since you left it on the Menu screen overnight, and then changed the game speed setting before you clicked Play, the game state was updated using the new speed setting. When you want to leave the game unattended for long periods, it's best to Quit rather than leave it on the Menu screen.
