[SPOILER ALERT]

PRIMER ON PLANT BREEDING

Let's take a look at what happens when you breed two plants.

Example 1 - One plant is to the right and above the other plant:

Here I breed a venomous reptans with a spotted gladiatus (they are in green). Notice all the plants I can make (in yellow) using just those two beginning plants. The yellow area forms a right triangle with the right angle always at the lower right and the two green cells always at the top right and lower left.

Example 2 - One plant is to the right and below the other plant:

In this case, the yellow area always forms a triangle with a straight right side; a top side that always slopes downward at a 45 degree angle; and a left side that connects the two initial plants.

There are two special cases of the above examples that work as well:
Example 3 - One plant is directly above the other plant

and
Example 4 - One plant is to the right of the other plant

To make a specific plant, you will always need to start with two plants on opposite sides of the plant you want to make. You could have two plants like in example 1 - one below and to the left of the plant you want and the other above and to the right. Or you could have two plants like in example 2 - one above and to the left of the plant you want, and the other below and to the right. Or you could start with plants directly above and below or right and left of the plant you want.

Now back to your initial question. To make the golden berries of wealth (aureus scandens), you need plants on opposite sides of it. To make it using the method in examples 1,2 and 4 you will need a REPTANS and something else. To make it using the method of example 3, you will need 2 scandens, one of which is above the aureus and the other below it.

If your current set of plants do not meet the above requirements, there are still two options. Using sfrose's wonderful seed guide, find the pictures of the reptans and scandens seeds and see if the "store" is selling any. The store restocks their seeds every 24 hours. The other option is to mutate a GRASS.

Although not 100% in the spirit of the game, you could make a backup copy of the save file of the game you are playing (in my documents > LDW > Plant Tycoon and look for the file "Plant Tycoon1.ldw" (if you are playing in slot 1). highlight it, press control-c to copy it, then control-v to save a backup of it (appears as "Copy of Plant Tycoon1.ldw" at the bottom of the list). then, in the game, mutate your GRASS and if it mutates to anything but a scandens, quit the game, copy the backup back into the original save file (I just delete "Plant Tycoon1.ldw" then highlight "Copy of Plant Tycoon1.ldw" then press control-v then rename the new file back to "Plant Tycoon1.ldw"). then try again to mutate your GRASS to a scandens. after you are successful doing that, mutate your scandens to a REPTANs (or if you have another GRASS you could mutate that to a scandens if it would give you two scandens, one above and one below the aureus).

you can use the free excel file viewer to look at the chart. if you do not have excel you wont be able to get instructions for breeding the plant you want, but if you get two plants that meet the criteria of examples 1,2,3 or 4 above and post the names of the plants you have, someone who has excel will tell you how to breed the one you want.

These instructions are based on the plant breeding utility found in the guides section of the LDW forum. i have a link to it in my signature below:
