Most people use Excel for their charts. I know some people are working on other formats, but it's going to take some time. For Windows users, there is a free Excel viewer available from Microsoft that will let you read the charts. There is a link to it in this post. \:\)

why not download the free excel spreadsheet viewer that LadyCFII mentioned in the Plant Tycoon Breeding Charts thread in the spoiler section?

For those who are not familiar with spreadsheets, there are tabs at the bottom of this one to switch between foliage, flowers, and prices.

Also, for those who downloaded this chart yesterday or early this morning, there was one small mistake in it (everyone is human), involving the name of one of the magic plants. The mistake is fixed - the link was updated - download it again.

edit: LadyCFII beat me to it. she must be a fast typist.

Thanks for the suggestion. \:\) The only thing about the viewer is, you can only look at the charts, not add to them.

Can the chart be separated into breeding information and which are the Magic Plants?

I've been working on my own charts (less than 100 crosses left to verify!) but I'm still searching for two Magic Plants, that at this point I'd rather discover on my own!

However, it would be useful to compare the breeding data with what I have found so far.

The chart that Borg made is color-coded, so the entire thing is pretty much a spoiler, even though the Magic Plants are only explicity identified on the last tab.

OK, I'll just keep working on my own charts... That's why I asked, I didn't want to get even a hint of spoilers of the last two Magic Plants I still need.

NutMeg, better than asking if the charts can be be in different software, it is better to say what software you prefer. But if all you want is a chart where you can check off what species you found. You just need to build a matrix with rows for flowers and columns for foliage (or vice versa) and check off each cell as you find it. My Seed Catalog in the guides section may be useful in figuring out how to layout the flowers and foliage.

sfrose, I didn't want to see the magic plants either, but decided to risk looking at the spreadsheet anyway because my own breeding charts are going so slowly. Basically if you open it in Excel and completely delete the last tab you will be fine. You get all the "reptan + pipe cactus = " data on the first two without any magic indicators. Just make your Excel window so small that you can't see anything except the tab labels, then right click and delete.

Thanks for the suggestion, but since Barbara says that the breeding chart is color-coded, I don't want to take the chance. My own breeding charts are almost complete. so just the process of verify the crosses is likely to reveal information if he has a code embedded.

If you've got MS Works (often installed when a new computer is sold), you should be able to open and edit the spreadsheet in Works's own spreadsheet application. It doesn't support tabs, though, so you'd have to open each tab as a separate file.

Ok, for those of us that basically use our computers as expensive game consoles, can you be more specific as to how to use Works for this? I've got the chart, but can't use it. \:\( I'd love to be able to do my own since I know how many species there are. Thanks.

You actually don't need a chart, just the "master list" with the 23 types of flowers and foliage (numbered in the correct order!) and some basic math to predict your crosses. E.g. cross foliage type 4 with foliage type 16 and your hybrid will have foliage type (4+16)/2 = 10. If you end up with a fraction, just round up to the next integer, e.g. crossing types 3 and 8: (3+8)/2 = 5.5 - round up to 6. The chart is nice to visualize all the combinations, but all it takes is the list and a bit of simple math to do without it.
