What does that do? I am just wondering how critical/helpful is it to do that?

Clearing that blockage is just one of the puzzles on the island!! Have those little villagers check it out!!

Clearing the blockage is necessary in order to solve later puzzles, and the villagers will start doing more things after you let them clear the blockage!

If you want to solve all the puzzles, you're going to have to follow the villagers lead - if they start to do something that doesn't seem to be dossing around (like telling jokes, thinking, etc.) and you're (1) still building up tech points and (2) they have enough to eat, then let them get stuck in.

how do u move the rock? i cant get it to move and the villagers r always trying to move it.

the boulder is one of those puzzles that can't be solved until you solve the puzzle before it! A special villager will come along that will move it for you! Good luck!
