Sarah, are you sure that when you went from 11pm to 1am, that you changed the date, too? It's easy to forget. I've killed off villagers that way - I forget to set the date correctly going forward AND backward (two date changes) and the game thinks a whole day has gone by. It's dangerous to mess with the clock near midnight and noon - it's that pesky am/pm and date thing!
