Lazy villagers?

First, congrats for making yet another totally addicting game! I've been playing for several days, up to level 2 on everything. Now my villagers like to just stand around and do nothing. They really need to harvest their crops to avoid starvation, I have lots of master farmers, but if I don't keep dragging them over to the crops, they just stand there doing nothing. Is this a bug? Am I doing something wrong? My villagers used to be so hard working, and now they're just lazy bums who will soon starve.

When you go into their details, do you have a little red check mark next to the skill you want them to perform the most? Having that selected makes them autonomously perform actions they're good at more often. So if you have masters with the skill they master in selected they SHOULD be doing it on their own. Now, keep in mind there have been reportings of lazy villagers and stupid ones too! My gang is pretty self sufficient and hard working but I'll catch them standing around, relaxing, dancing and exercising! If they've been working hard I allow them the break Check your details first - if that isn't it maybe they are just being lazy!

Yup, everyone has a check mark. Of course, they must have heard me complaining about them. Now they don't stand around more than about 20 seconds before thinking of something to do. Perhaps having one of their number die motivated them? I'll be watching them...

You didn't say what tech levels you have, but there are certain prerequisites for fishing. If you grow your population too quickly, food will become a problem unless you have a lot of villagers producing food. Once the children turn 14, you'll be able to train them in research and things should move along better for you.

Anonymous 1: have a look at the info screens for the Tech levels. The info given on harvesting should help you understand more about fishing. Most of us who have had to play quite a few games, change our strategies as we go, but there is a fine line regards how many villagers are needed to look for food, and how many to research. You just need to play, watch, and find what works best for your game style
Anonymous 2: children must be 14 before they start doing useful tasks in the village. Like the adults, some are quick to pick up their tasks, and some need a bit more persuasion
Everyone: I am convinced that these villagers are just like humans. I'm sure you all know some lazy people, and others who are very dedicated to their work/tasks. Why does everyone expect that our villagers are going to be any different!! I thought Arthur and co were aiming for some reality here, and that's what we have as far as I am conecerned!!

Yup, just like humans. ;-)
They're turning lazy again. This morning when I turned on the game, they had no food, no crops, and half of them were standing around doing nothing. The other half were doing laundry.
I spoke to them sternly, and got everyone busy working on the crops. After lunch, they had food but were doing nothing. Now this evening, they have no food and are doing nothing.
