I rename when I feel it's necessary. I have yet to have more than one villager named the same thing, but I'm getting lazy. ;\)

I keep the name of the villagers "created" by the game: the 7 original villagers, the savage child, the old friends, babies arrived in a barrel...
And I rename the villagers "created" by me, keeping the 1st letter. Bora became Barbara, Popo became Paulin, Miro became Michel etc. I just keep 1 or 2 original name that I like as Agate, City or Nani.
When the game is "completed", I keep their name and add the 2 or 3 first letters of their parents.
I don't know exactly why I do that, maybe to recognize them easily. \:\/

I renamed a bunch of my Villagers. I have a Pebbles and even have a Bobo! (cuz he looks like a bozo (the clown) but he has white white skin and his huge huge afro!!) I named another Villagers Topanga because she looks JUST like that character from Boy Meets World!! \:D

I have a child that is so slow when I use her (try to avoide it now) to pick up anything, it vanishes before she gets it to the hut/food bin!! OMG - I changed her name to Molasass.

for some fun reason... my villagers like to steal each others names. for example "yseult" will magically become "maynard" and "maynard" become "cobain." or i will end up with 3-4 villagers who all have the same name. i dont know why it happens, and i fix it whenever i notice it, but its still kinda funny.

We have recently found out what causes that _bug_, and it's something that can be prevented. There's a timing issue that can occur under certain conditions (when the computer is very busy or on older, slower computers). To prevent villagers' names from changing, don't scroll rapidly through the details screen, which causes the name of one villager to overwrite the name of the villager next to him in the details screens.

I tend to change the names to something more exotic.
"Hula" wasn't doing it for me.

I rename each child after its' parents, who were named after THEIR parents, etc. etc. etc. All my names sound vaguely Hawaiian, except for Solo...I couldn't resist...he's now HanSolo, Master Doctor. ;\) And you just know, when I got Obi, he became "Obiwan". Even funnier, I got a child yesterday called "Kenobi". Very good, LDW!
