The scientists often work at the table with a bowl of berries. It looks like the bowl that VV1 villagers use to carry berries! So it could be berries among the crops! ...and tomatoes too

(3 times the word "berries" in 3 short sentences! \:D )

The Tomatoes in VV 2 look alot like berries too. Unless we are missing something that is hidden.....Spoiler Highlight below:
