I got up to about 50 people and mine got so slow I finally quit and started over with 7 of 12 puzzles solved. I'm trying it on another pda now, the Zire to see if it will be better on it.

Is this normal for it to slow down painfully when lots of people? I hit reset and everything I could think of.

Even on the fastest Palms (like my T5) the game starts to slow down when you get a lot of villagers.

I was so excited to have this game released I mentally planned for bugs and slow-downs. I don't mind because the game is SO MUCH FUN and I don't have to worry that a new release will cost me more money or anything. So I'll play and enjoy as long as I can and when the bug fix comes out woo-hoo!

Hey, great game! I have been playing now for three or four days and I am on my first run still.

So far, I have had none of the bugs that I have read about in the various threads in this forum; nothing beyond, for instance, a villager being described as "Held" even after I have de-selected them by tapping and moving the ground. It changes once I choose another villager; and even so, this error happens only rarely. There are a couple of other things that I have noticed; but they were just as inconsequential. No disappearing villagers, or etc.

Sometimes a villager is decribed as "Honoring the Idol" when they just left laying flowers in the graveyard. There's an idea that I haven't quite verified yet--but I *suspect* that they had been at the Idol already, and now were going around to the graveyard as well. Also a couple of times the Golden Child has been described as "Chasing Butterflies" when she was at the cactus; but when she was running TO the cactus she was said to be "Curious About the Cactus", and the description changed when she stopped running, that is, just when she reached the cactus and stopped to be curious about it.

However, overall, the game has been excellent--as have the previous LDW games that have kept me fascinated-- 'till I run out the charge on my Zire 72's battery! Now I just plug in my charger and keep the Zire plugged in so that I keep full power for just in case I need to go somewhere and require the PDA for "Real World" tasks!

One thing: I seem to be stuck; everything is running great in Village Sim; I have 65 villagers (well, two just died of old age, the oldest was 80)... I have solved 11 of the 12 puzzles, and real-time play has been 244 hours; food harvested is at 317952! "Island Events Encountered" are 17, and total tech points is 612131 (Tech levels completed is 12).

So what now? Everyone is working just fine; they water crops, plant crops, harvest crops; they heal the sick without my help, and they no longer do research (I suppose they no longer need to do that with no more levels to buy).

They fix huts, they exercise, tell stories; they do all the things that they do when you get to this level--I don't want to list them because I don't wish to ruin it for those who are not there yet--

But the thing is, they don't need me anymore! The only thing I can do is bring the village population back up to 65 by setting a couple of guys to "Breeding", because this is easier than setting women to "Breeding", for reasons that become obvious when you do it! Otherwise, they are "autonomous", it seems; and the only thing left to do, is to find that last puzzle, which I am going to stick with until I get it--but I wish I had at least a clue! I have a couple of "suspicions", but I am not sure at all, and besides; nothing comes of these ideas, anyway--when I try to move villagers to an object, or a corner of the village, or to a structure, or whatever. Of course the boulder has been moved, and the statue carved, and all of that (Stonehenge? Hmmm...)

For awhile there I thought that I had to "encourage" a villager to honor the idol or honor the dead; but now I find them taking time out now and then to do this themselves.

In fact every villager winds up doing everything that I have witnessed them doing, except the "beach work" (so said because I don't want to spoil things for others), and that's because there is nothing to do for that.

But it has been awhile now that they've been doing fine without my "interference" (BUT I interfere anyway! <grin!>; and I check them every hour to see what I can do, or if they need anything; but I really seem to be stuck. Or perhaps I just need to continue being patient?

One thing I notice is that they complain now and then, or "Worry About Housing". But even though there are spots to build still, and "Master Bulders" abound--I can't seem to make them build anything anymore--and this limits the population to 65. How do you get them to start another hut or something?

I have a health difficulty, that makes it so that I cannot sleep for more than an hour or two at a time; so I am literally checking on my villagers pretty much every hour around the clock! It is fun; but now that the village is so "grown up", it is sort of sad; they "do not need their father any more!" <sniff!>

What I am afraid of, is that a HUGE storm is going to come along and kill all of them off, except for two, or something like that. Perhaps a plague? Something... But if it does, I will really hate it, because I am sad each time someone dies; it is like I really knew them. To lose them all that way (as opposed to finishing the game, and moving on to another round or something), would be terribly sad!

In fact, here is something I wish that I could do: click on a Tombstone and find out who's stone it belongs to. There are 12 Tombstones, and I forget the earlier villagers who are buried there (three died before I learned how to get them buried; so there should be at least 15, I am pretty sure). I never thought of writing down the names of each new villager; and my memory for names is really poor. I remember each villager, but I can't remember their names after they die! So, it would be nice to be able to have some way of knowing who has passed, similarly to how you can know all the villagers who are alive through the Details screen. Either that way, or by clicking a Tombstone, would be fine (also giving a little line or two about what they did in life when the name is told, would be nice).

So: great game, fun to play, and nicely challenging; I am sort of wondering where do I go now, that I have finished (all except that final irritating 12th puzzle I can't seem to figure out! <grin!>)

Anyway, please reply, or write me at pampaluz(AT)gmail.com if you have any suggestions about any of the above--

Thanks!

Wow, Mark! Interesting post! The 12th puzzle is very difficult - it's an easter egg that requires certain . . . well . . . special things! I only know of one person who hasn't needed help to get it!

We have asked for 'clickable' tombstones before, but so far the graves are unresponsive. I think you should be able to 'read' the tombstones (just like in real life - Here lies Lala, a master builder who died in the plague of '07 at the age of 63)!

There are some bugs, as you've noticed, but Arthur and team are working hard to release a bug fix/update to Village Sim as soon as they can!

The game is designed to be open-ended (like all of LDW's games), so even after you complete all of the puzzles, you can still have fun with all of your little people! I find 'peep watching' to be great fun!

Apologies if this has been asked/answered elsewhere (couldn't find anything) What is the status of the PPC version? Can't wait to get my hands on Village sim.. I remember seeing a post that it was going to be relatively easy to transfer the game to PPC.. so, how's it going?

How do some users have a name but it says unregestered? Examples: gingermadness and attymusic.

It's very easy! When you create a new post, or a reply to an existing post, you can change what's in the username field at the top of the page. By default, it says "Anonymous," but you can put your name or nickname or whatever in there. For registered users who are logged on, their username appears under "Username" and can't be changed.
