I just downloaded a new game to try and when I was moving it to my internal memory card on my T5 I noticed there was a large village SIm file on my regular base memory. Thinking this was a MISTAKE and I hadn't deleted the old file when I moved it over to the internal card I went along and deleted it. Come to find out this largish file was my ENTIRE game. I am upset. I almost had enough tech to get 3rd level research, I had 3rd level on a couple other things, I had 25 villagers and growing, 5-6 puzzles done. Argh. Argh I say!!!

All my other games on my internal memory card are fine - they play and save right off the internal card. Why is this one playing/saving off of BOTH? I don't want to take up DOUBLE the space on my palm for this game and now I'm afraid to delete one or the other!!

Can't help you with your problem, as I don't have a memory card yet.... but hope your next game goes even better, as you will have learned how to do things better

Thanks it's just hard building back up again, and I'd been waiting like 3 days to get enough for Science level 3. *SIGH!!* Oh well...I started a new game and so far it hasn't duplicated itself..yet...

Is the file you deleted still in a recycle bin or archive folder? Sorry not sure off hand what would happen when you delete a file

Rebecca, there are two files: Village_Sim.prc (the game - large file) and VillageSavegame.pdb (your savegame - small file). It's probably too late, since you started over, but if it ever comes up again, you can just retrieve your savegame (from your PC or other backup location) and put it back. You can PM me if you need details on how to do this.

My archive folder where? When I deleted it off the Palm it just said "Village Sim" - it didn't say anything else

Your archive folder is on your PC (if you use Palm Desktop). Look in \Program Files\PalmOne\xxxxx\archive (where xxxxx is your user name). There's also a copy of your savegame in \Program Files\PalmOne\xxxxx\backup.

I found the save game one in my backup folder - didn't see anything in archive. I haven't hotsync'ed since this happened so the file is probably still good from yesterday, from BEFORE I was a dummy

Just a warning, though, if your game wasn't paused at the time you hotsynced, be prepared for some unexpected aging (unless you change the system clock on your T5 back to the date/time stamp of that savegame)!

Hmm...well I don't remember if it was paused or not...but I just started a new game this morning and I'm not attached to it...so I might as well try! How do I load the save game back on? And do you/anyone know why it was on both my regular memory AND the internal memory? The whole issue was it's taking up like, twice the space that way and I don't want it on the regular memory which is small I just want it on my internal card which is big

The easiest way to put your savegame back onto your Palm is to 'double-click' on the savegame file in the backup folder and it will be set up to install on your next hotsync. If you'd prefer, you can use the file transfer application that came with the T5 to transfer it manually.

When you refer to 'internal memory' are you talking about an expansion card or the T5's special internal flash drive? Are you running any kind of backup program (or third party launcher) that might have copied the program to the internal flash memory? That's the most likely reason that the game was in both places, since you can't run programs from the flash drive.

I will try to reinstall it now

The T5 has the regular memory with only, what, 70M of free space and the internal memory card with 180 or whatever...I have tons of other games on the internal memory card and they run fine/don't copy over to the other part. I'm sorry I don't know the technical names...I'm not so hot on palm "insides"

Okay - I officially love you now Barbara My happy little villagers are ALL back!! And I have more tech points!! Apparently to make a point about deleting things when I don't know what they are I did get a random event when I started that said all my food was washed away in a typhoon OH WELL!! I've set some hearty young men up to fishing and I'm sure I"ll soon be replenished!! *phew!!*

THANK YOU!!

Yeah, the T5's memory is different, all right. I haven't totally explored its capabilities yet, so I haven't tried to actually run a program from that 160MB flash drive area. I know you can't install a program there using Quick Install (HotSync). Quick Install only allows installation to main memory or an expansion card. I'm running VillageSim in main memory. I might play with the different kinds of memory some more after I finish the tests I'm running.

Right - you can't install directly, but you can do "copy" from the Palm options and send it to the internal drive, then delete it from main memory. The two areas are completely seperate so it's like "brand new" once you copy - but they all run off this memory fine that I"ve found. I have my "productive" tools on main memory (my SplashWallet and Agendus) and all my games on the internal flash card. It seems whatever it was doing on the main memory has disappeared thanks to my little experiment

And I'm happy to report that my farming villagers are happyly replenishing the food supply and I'm very pleased

Thank you again!!

Yep, I'm definitely going to have to play with my T5's 'special memory' once I'm finished with my Village Sim tests. My 'real' PDA is my Pocket PC, so I don't mess with the T5 very much.

With all this talk of Pocket PCs it might have to be my next gadget investment It sounds like they run very differently...kind of off topic but what are the big benefits to it?

I'll send you a PM! I might cause too many people to abandon their Palms!
