Not that I know of. I asked this question a couple of days ago, and it just a task that they do.

They are not gaining skill or solving puzzles by doing laundry, but beyond that, who's to say that doing laundry isn't necessary?

I wonder if doing laundry is some way of "relaxing" so they're not so stressed out doing their regular tasks?

Nobody wants stinky villagers in dirty laundry

Maybe it helps in the ability to breed?

As testimony to refute the above, I'd like to offer my friend's boyfriend as evidence that dirty people are, unfortunately, all too able to breed.
