I had one of the reported crashes (shadow window type thing) on my T3 after playing for a while, so I've become fanatical about returning to the menu, and switching away from the app when leaving it to run in the real time.

Problem is, when I do that, tech points seem to accumulate much, much slower than when I'm in the game. Is this behaviour correct?

Unfortunately, this seems to be the case.

Bug?

It is, unfortunately, true that villagers will gather less food and produce fewer tech points when the game is off. We are currently working on this so that the situation will be much improved when the update is released.
