The research hut, the sewing hut and the pretty flowery hut dont have anything to do with population increases, it's the three that are closest to the fire that we are talking about - yes?

The sewing hut foundations appear after one of the techs is completed.

I can't really help you. I'm stuck at 90 pop as well. Collectibles are completely random. Level 3 Exploration Tech is supposed to help. Just keep waiting.
