This is my first time through with the game, so I am running at the low difficulty with the game speed on Fast...but I just couldn't stand waiting to see what would happen next!

The villagers food is currently at 137,446!
I have all my Tech up to the third level. My villagers will no longer work at the research table, no matter how much I take them there, so my Tech points are only at 25,767.

Kinda stuck right now, but watching and waiting for the last puzzle to click!

There is no reason for your villagers to research at the table after you have L3 in all areas of Village Tech. That's why they don't want to do research any more! They're smart little people!

It's very challenging to play on high difficulty, but it can be done.

Current population 65, current food level 1446 - I was concentrating on getting the last of the tech so they went a bit hungry - but then given how hard it was to keep them fed, they're used to growing weak from hunger.

I think I might leave it to run on fast overnight with everyone farming - just to see how high I can get the food level

That's pretty impressive! You're the first person that we know of to complete the game on the most difficult setting!

Well, I am impressed. I was playing on the difficult level for almost 200 hours, and couldn't get past 2 tech levels. I was having a problem with running out of food or finding a good time to lose my women to breeding. My original villagers were all starting to die, and I don't have enough new ones to keep the food up I think . That game is on hold for the moment

Thanks guys - I think I was lucky by finally finding a strategy that worked.

Once I got Level 2 harvesting, every night I'd set one researcher and all the rest to farm and leave the game on Slow but switched on in the cradle while I slept. This really got the food up and I could do more research and have babies while I was awake and keeping an eye on it.

Like I said, I started the game at this level loads of times and never got too far. In two of the earlier starts, I got the whale pretty early on, and took the food option so I thought I'd be able to get past the breed versus food problem, but it never worked.

I've now got 1 GC, two doctors and 61 farmers - it's funny watching the queues to water the crops!

You have found the 'magic' combination for success in the game on the hard setting.

How does one begin to get the Islanders to fish for crabs?
My villagers die by the end of my 2nd or 3rd day of playing. Or the children all "disappear" and I'm left with 1 old sick villager and a hungry young one. I'm stumped.

First Sim game I've played! At first I tried making little geneology charts, but they really do like their privacy, don't they? You need to get some villagers researching at the research table (quickly) so that you can purchase level 2 of harvesting. That will allow your villagers to learn to farm and give them a much-needed new food source.

When you say "five on the way" with respect to v born, how do you know you have babies on the way? Apparently my villagers are having a great time because I keep making them go inside until the female comes out with a baby!

immediately after you hear the "kiss" you can check the woman's detail screen to see if she's nursing... you don't have to wait for them to go inside!

With the exception of the one anonymous player a few notes above, who's put in 1030 hours on normal speed, I don't see anyone else who has had to be this patient. This was absurd, but this is exactly what it took for blessed puzzle #10 to complete puzzle #11. My civilization had collapsed to one child alone and, with the help of a barrel of babies, regrown before the event finally occurred. There's no way I would have waited this out without forum input. The developers will definitely want to do something about this in future releases. These stats represent over 41 days of game play on the fastest speed on the easiest setting! I had made it through all the other puzzles within 5 days and had to wait a month for puzzle #11.

Yeah, you think I might have a little OCD? I started this last game on May 16th and I'm going to see how long I can keep it going. Hopefully an update will come out and I'll start all over again. What can I say, this is a great game!

Level low. Mostly medium speed (I leave it like that when I'm at work: took it around with me one day and found myself checking things constantly, so now I leave it and wait until the end of the day.) Occasionally, I've put it on fast speed. I've paused it a couple of times at night or when I knew I couldn't check for quite a while. Right now it's set on fast speed.

I don't have a GC, and as there is no more housing, and they won't "produce" any more, I'll have to keep waiting until the the older villagers die off.
