My Village has a law where women are allowed to leave their babies outside of the police station or fire station of neighboring villages. When I notice that a child is gone, I question the mother and usually she confesses to having done this. We find this policy beneficial to child health though it seems superficially contrary to our other "No Child Left Behind"-related policies. While this is normally successful, we have found instances where mothers apparently pack their children in barrels and abandon them to the sea. The proper authorities are investigating.
