Hi,

I have all but the last two puzzles solved, all of the research done, and population of 75. It came up with the pop-up that a golden child was born, but I can't find him. Will I be able to still finish the game with out him? I don't know what happened to him. He just vanished.

Mike

You might want to check one of the other threads, but this seems to be an ongoing bug. It's one they are trying to work out.

Please scroll through your villagers' detail screens and see if there's a 5-year-old that seems unusual. If you don't find one, please post back here.

I am also experiencing this issue. After I dismissed the dialog about the golden child, all my villagers started worshipping. I was able to view the child's details (all stats at max, 5 years old).

EDIT: After looking at another thread, it's important to note that I DID drag the golden child to the boulder. This caused him to disappear.

I've looked through all of my villagers' detail screens, and he is not there.

For reference, I have 10 of the 12 puzzles solved, and I'm playing on a Treo 650.

Well, it seems that the Golden Child is disappearing (sometimes, rarely) when being dragged to the idol or the boulder. Has anyone lost the Golden Child under different circumstances?

You won't be able to complete all of the puzzles without the Golden Child! Sorry . . .

I'm sure Arthur will be working on this bug!

I have the golden child, but is he supposed to walk stay on water, because if I put her in water, it just stays there.

Yes, this is no ordinary child! She won't stay there forever, though. She'll get bored and go chase butterflies or something.

I lost a trainee builder last night - there were two other builders working on the idol and I dragged over another guy to train him - but he disappeared. His details were still there because I'd had him selected, but when I selected someone else, his details disappeared.

I was on level 2 for medicine, fertility and science and level 3 for the others, eight puzzles completed (still waiting for the GC) and had a population of about 26 having just finished the third hut.

I dropped him at the bottom left-hand corner of the scaffolding when he did his "thin air" trick. Not a major loss for me, but it might help you pin down the bug.

I had a very similar thing happen during the beta test, but my builder didn't disappear (she just got stuck on the scaffold and showed 'held' forever - even though I wasn't 'holding' her). I wonder if they're related.

I had a builder disapear. I dragged her to the top of the stone. She showed "held" until I selected another villager. Now she is gone. I have level 2 medicine, level 2 Fertility and level 2 science. Other three are level 3.

I also think I dismissed the Golden child box and I didn't even click the "ok".I clicked somewhere on the screen. It happened so fast I couldn't read it. Then got a notice I had reached another milestone of population.

I'm now maxed out on all the techs and the idol is complete - and even though I'm trying to lose villagers here, it's not working. Seems to be a bug before or during construction but not after? Anonymous and I also had the same tech levels when it happened.

Do you know when the GC shows up? I'm at 65 pop (max) and It's been at least a full day real time. And then, when she does show up, should I not touch her so she doesn't "vanish"? Will she do what she is supposed to do without me dragging her around?

We've had reports of lost villagers even after the carving is completed, so I'm not sure that it's related to the stage of construction. The boulder might also be a 'bad place' - villagers have been lost there, too.

tigger, the golden child appears when he or she is ready to. What (s)he does is also up to him/her. You cannot make him/her do anything

If you are worried about losing them once they appear, try making a backup of the game and then you can try again if you need to

Tigger, the GC will not be born if you are at the max population. The GC has to be 'conceived' like a normal child (it doesn't just 'show up'), and that can't happen if you can't make any more babies. After your population goes down (graveyard time), your villagers can make more babies.

I figured that...
I have one villager nursing right now.... could that be the GC or do you know the moment he/she is conceived?

I'm almost 100% positive that the GC message happens when the child is produced, not after the mom finishes nursing. The GC is, after all, special!

I was Anonymous in an earlier post. I lost my viliager when trying to have her join in carving the rock. They'd already done the ruins. From what I'm reading I don't have the GC. I'm not sure what else I can add.

Arthur is working on that bug. If anyone loses a villager anywhere besides the rock/idol or the boulder, please report that! There have also been reports of vanishing villagers in other circumstances (for example, interrupting burials and breeding). More information on those incidents would be helpful, too.

I could never consistently get crabs from my masters. I decided that masters were the only ones who could go crabbing, but they could also get fish, or decide to harvest, or pick berries even (what a waste)

Regarding 'lost villagers', are they vanishing righit at the moment when they are released from your grasp? They just vanish?

And is their disappearance reflected correctly in the population count? That is, they are really gone and not just invisible?

Arthur, the reports I've been seeing have indicated that the vanished villager's details screen is gone - that's not consistent with them being invisible (and you know that I've "seen" plenty of invisible villagers!). Also, people are saying that the population count in the overview map is not right after the villager 'leaves.'

Wow! Scareee! When I have my GC, I think I better let s/he does his/her own stuff. The other day I visited this forum, GC goes missing near idol. Now s/he will also disappear near the boulder.

Hope Arthur can solve this mystery soon! It's like Arthur & team create mysteries in VS for us to solve and VS created mystery or mysteries for Arthur & team to solve in return!

Arthur... I just had two villagers dissapear (gone from the village count as well). Some were taking care of the dead and two were trying to breed. I picked one up to drop her on the other and they both dissapeared. They were both to the right of the well in the "sick" field. Hope this helps.

In other cultures, I believe this is called "Nirvana", when a couple is so enraptured that they just transform into pure energy.

I think I saw that once on an episode of Outer Limits.

My Village has a law where women are allowed to leave their babies outside of the police station or fire station of neighboring villages. When I notice that a child is gone, I question the mother and usually she confesses to having done this. We find this policy beneficial to child health though it seems superficially contrary to our other "No Child Left Behind"-related policies. While this is normally successful, we have found instances where mothers apparently pack their children in barrels and abandon them to the sea. The proper authorities are investigating.

I was wondering if the programmers were going to come back saying it was the mystical powers of the idol.

You can just download the trial off the LDW web site and use your registration code with it. If you decide to reinstall the game, though, please make sure that you completely uninstall the old game with the standard Palm delete function before you install it again.

You shouldn't be having the Golden Child disappearing as soon as it's born. Could you please post more details about your problem? What device are you using? How much memory (and how much is free)?

Hi,

I went and registered. It might make things easier. I have a Tungsten E with 50 percent free space. When I go to VS, and everything is met to get the Golden Child, it will have the pop-up message that I have the Golden Child. All the villagers will run over, but where they are looking, there's nothing there. I will go through all the villagers and can't find the Golden Child. I will try to download again as suggested.

The Golden Child is a 5-year-old (male or female) who wears a cape and is maxed out on all the skills. That's what you're looking for. The villagers are looking toward the idol, not the GC.

Alright - it's been 3 days I've been waiting for the GC - what gives?! Anyone else had to wait that long? I have had oldies dying and newbies being born - the cycle of life has been continuing - so now I'm worried!! That and I'm getting antsy to start over so I can work towards getting the 12th puzzle

The most I've ever heard of anyone waiting was 3 or 4 days for the GC. What speed are you running your game? That might make a difference. Of course, you could always start over and save the last THREE puzzles for your new game!!

Yeah it's been 3 human days - on normal speed. I think if he doesn't show up today I'll be starting over. I miss HAVING to take care of my village during the day! With so many people and only needing to gather food and heal (and the occasional breeding!) right now I feel like an empty nest parent! Hehehe. Plus this week at work has been hectic and having the distraction during break times would be nice!

I'll let ya' know if he shows up today!

My first go around (not counting the tutorial game) I waited maybe a day. Like so many the first time around, I did not have a villager trained in the way to solve #12. So after waiting a day, and hearing how long some waited for this little dude, I decided to just start over.

The third time around, it happened like clockwork. I finished the hut; bolder, completed #12 then just started breeding like crazy. I think my pop was around 38 when I started going for the GC, so I just took every female and told her to let her hair down and make some babies. After about 9 or 10 bleedings, boom there he was. And it took not time (30 mins or so) for her to do her magic.

After about 9 or 10 , boom there he was. And it took not time (30 mins or so) for her to do her magic.

You're a tough one!

You got that right! The 7mm rifle helped.

They are pretty ignorant little guys. Apparently they do not know it is illegal to shoot high power rifles in the state of Indiana. Please no one tell them, ok?

Yesterday, I lost several villagers; one I dropped onto the beach, and he vanished before my eyes; 2 others disappeared when I dragged them to the berry bush; and one other, when I dragged him to the cactus. I'm pretty far along (just got my golden child a couple minutes ago). So I am just being very careful where I drag them; seems not to happen if I drop them near but not onto the bush, cactus, etc.

This bug is being worked on by the development team and will be fixed in the upcoming release of an update to Village Sim. It seems to happen after there has been a death/burial. A possible workaround is to leave the game after villagers are buried and launch it again. That seems to resolve (at least temporarily, until there are more burials) the situation that causes vanishing villagers, graphic anomalies, etc.

That’s is what I have heard, but remember I lost a villager after retuning from a passed game, with no deaths. JFWI

The discussion here is about the Palm version of the game, Village Sim, where the GC could be a girl or a boy. If you check the dates on the posts, they are over 2 years old - well before the first Virtual Villagers game was released. \:\)

It happened to me too when I start over the game.
I see the pop-up about the GC but I can't find the GC(I went to the detail and I found a 5 years old with all the skill MAX)But I cant see him. When I click done it pointed the sea.
I'm using WinXP Home with 18GB free space.
