sometime he sits down and there is a notification: "this villager improves at building" (on the bottom of the screen). I don't know if it is the same when he exercises by his own...
This is worth noting: I have a woman, 51, who is stuck at Adept Parent but soooo close to Master.... today, I had her "teaching" the kids (by dropping her on a child) and all the kids come to "attend lessons" and the mom goes in to the science shack and brings something to show them once or twice... if you let her continue, SOMETIMES (more often than not) the notification at the bottom of the screen shows "This villager improved at parenting"... I'm going to continue this cycle and see if it works her up to "Master" parent.
This is one of those 2nd time around things for me! So excited!
EDIT: Take out that "more often than not" part, I just lucked out the first few times! haven't had it again, but going to keep trying!
) If they gain some skills, though, I'll let them alone in future.
