so go ahead point out what you thought was a joke

none of what you were saying sounded "tongue in cheek" as you put it

and don't try to write it off as British humor

we were not offended by your opinion. we were offened by how you stated it, repeatedly, and what seemed in a vicious nature

do not try to make people feel guilty by playing the victim here
