I have several games that I check the status on a rgeular basis. Add wood to the fire (or rebuild the fire), make sure that there is enough food, check on an sick villagers, check on parenting status (if the population is under the maximum), ring the gong, etc. All pretty normal.

However one day, when I checked on one village, I discovered that it wasn't at my maximum. I had a male Master Parent, so why were there no babies? To my surprise, I only had 11 villagers under the age of 50! Four of them were female, but none were at least 18! \:o

A previous Baby Boom (possibly when I finished the beetle and pebble collections within minutes of each other) gave me [b]lots[b] of babies all the same age, and now they were all middle-aged. A few more kids were born, but there weren't enough "deaths" to make room for more.

I checked back later when the two older girls were over 18, and made sure that they started on their "parenting" career. But even more of the eldery had died in the mean time (my population was now in the 50s), and they only had one kid each.

This morning, the two younger girls have reached parenting age, so now there are four mamas, but the population was down to 43. \:\(

I'm sure that the village will recover, and at least this time, there might not be to large of a Baby Boom, but this was an Event that was now specifically programmed into the game.

I have a similar situation now. I checked on my tribe this morning and found that there were 72 villagers. All but 3 females were over 50 and there were no children. Of course I immediately started an emergency repopulation program and managed to get 7 kids before the 3 moms were too old to make more little ones. As of this afternoon, the population is down to 44, and the youngest adult villager is 52. 3 of the kids are female, and I guess they're going to be busy when they grow up. \:D

The population cap has created similar baby-boom situations in VV1, but it's definitely more likely in VV2 with the breeding-age limit.

i had a problem when I had no kids to collect (desperately needed!!!) mushrooms and no room to grow. I was getting ready to make a poisoned stew :-/ Thank god they finished the hut soon after I discovered that problem (I love adult villagers that run!!!)!!!

I have 18 villagers in one village all age 46, 7 age 45 and 13 age 44 , I did NOT have 38 nursing mothers at one time or 20 of them ... crazy,, at most 6 die six get born ... this is an old village I have on 1/2 speed without pause and are self sufficient, I go in to ring the Gong, do event and drag the dullards to the ocean to learn something... I am beyond thinking there is logic to this game!

This evening the population is at 46 with four nursing moms and two 17 year old girls about to help the cause.

But I almost had another diasaster, none of the adults had any farming skills! There was plenty of food in the bin (and not too many mouths) so I didn't notice at first. Only when I spotted that no one was harvesting the crops.

Now most of the adults have a secondary career as farmers and I won't worry about them overnight.

I have never had that situation, at the beginning of the game, i have babies as needed untill i have gotten level 3 farming, then i take 2 females and put them on parenting, and just leave them be untill they get to 50, then when that happens, i put two more on parenting, etc etc, when i have all the collectables reached, and im able to have the pop max, i put on one more female. i always make sure there are three mothers, after some time it usually works out so that i have one mother in early 20s, and one in her 30s and one in her 40s, as one turns 50, a newbie is brought in. this keeps my villages at a stable healthy 70-90 range, given twins and triplets maxed out. It works for me, and i always have a good balance of female to male ratios.

The scenario that sfrose and I described is most likely to happen in stable villages where 1 male is set to parenting to keep the population up. Using that strategy, you'll typically have babies in bunches, with long periods of time between bunches because of the population limit. I tend to do that in long-running tribes that I'm not watching very closely. I never do that in early or unstable tribes. \:\)

yeah see,,, i never put a male on parenting lol, i think the little boogers can just wait for the females when their good and ready, plus that way the only ones having babies are the ones i want. lol i am woman hear me.... well you know the rest.

sfrose -- I had this happen in one of my villages too, only I haven't finished any collections in that village. Usually, after I finished the puzzles, I lower my speed to 1/2 time so I don't have to rebuild the fire so often. Well, when I discovered that my population was aging, I bumped it up to x2 so they'd die quicker (I'm a heartless guiding hand) and my parents could re-populate slowly.

I generally have a fair number of girls on parenting duty at any one time, so as soon as an elderly villager dies, one of them will produce offspring to make up the numbers again. Talk about dead men's shoes ... In the meantime they are all busy kissing one poor inoffensive male and steadily working towards becoming master parents. I usually also make the "alpha male" also a parent. I figure that if the girls have all the fun kissing him he ought to be able to do some kissing back. ;\)

i had 2 of those raft events that left one of my villages with a 20 year gap in between 2 villagers and that sometimes causes the population to go back down to around 50.

My tribe started with only one female, and she kept producing boys. I was really worried, but finally a girl child was born - whew!

The tribe is now 81 villagers and sex ratios are normal...

About baby boom: at one point I made the mistake of having about 10 babies all at once. Algae covered the ocean. The strain on the food supply was major and I didn't dare do more babies for quite a while. So there was a gap of 14 years in the ages. The old folks died and there were no babies to find the collectibles, and all the ladies were either too young or too old and it was a mess.
