I prefer events where you can't be certain if you are making the right (or safe) choice. For instance, to take your example:
(Villager) sees a strange animal in the trees
- Kill the animal and use it for food
- Animal attacks villager (Status becomes weakened)
- Villager kills animal - 500 food gained
- Ignore it
- No effect
- Animal attacks villager anyway(Status becomes weakened)
