I have VV1 and VV2, and one thing about VV2 is that it's hard to gather enough food for every one untill you can release the algae eating fish into the ocean again. It greatly annoyed me that I had to lose several villagers to hunger because the only thing I had to gather food from was coconuts, which run out fast and are not replenished quick enough, and the field, that takes growing before it provides food.

But I think I figured it out. This time around, I'm keeping my food level under 1000 - and even though I've played for 22 real hours, where 4-6 has been on 2x speed and the rest on ½x speed, there's no algae! I have level 2 in Farming and Engineering and about 5300 tech points. So I'm doing good! No rush this time - no one's hungry or worried about food, and I have a constant source of food.
