What is the best way to proceed in buying tasks. Should I buy by just going higher in points each time? Or get all the fishing first? I hate that phase where you have to eat mushrooms. Is there anyway around it?

Which game are you playing: VV1 or VV2? The two games are different.

I have my dam built, waiting for farm to pop up and dont have the algae yet. (vv2)

I'm playing VV2.

What I've been doing is

1. Farming 2 (coconuts)
2. Engineering 2 (to build a dam for the farm)
3. Science 2 (yeah, it takes 16000 tech points, but it speeds up the accumulation of points)
4. Farming 3 (to get rid of the algae and have unlimited food supply)

Still haven't decided on a "best order" after that.

I normally proceed as follows:

1. L2 Engineering - dam
2. L2 Exploration - stews and spears
3. L2 Science - faster tech points
4. L2 Medicine - villagers live longer and become elderly later
5. L2 & L3 Farming together - coconuts and unlimited fishing.

I do a mix of Seagull & Arnie :
1°:. L2 Farming 2 (coconuts)
2°:. L2 Engineering 2 (to build a dam for the farm)
3°: L2 Science (faster tech points)
4°: L2 Medicine (villagers live longer and become elderly later)
5°: L2 Exploration (stews and spears)
6°: L3 Farming (unlimited fishing)

in general i get

L2 Engineering
L2 Science
L2 Exploration

after that it depends on what that particular village needs

but i always feel weird not getting Science really early on, if i can, i even hold off on Engineering

it makes it more of a challenge in the beginning, but i guess it makes more sense to me to get the science techs first so they actaully get more tech points faster

Why? L3 Science costs so much that it's only really effective if you get it very early. If I can't get it very early, I buy it last of all.

And, by waiting on L3 Farming until very late, I'm forced to keep my village small -- which is better for me, because I don't usually have time to watch over a large village before they're self sufficient.

because i had such a wonderful group of villagers and because i had the patience to sit and babysit them, collecting mushrooms for much much time....it was worth it, but i don't thik i could do that for every village!

I am on Village 4 and wanted a challenge to get the gong before A big population, previously I have reached 50 Elders before i got the gong
so this tribe has a minimum population of 17, 5 kids 4 elders 2 adept parents(they already mastered farming and Research) 1 doctor and the rest are now uncovering the ruins
I got quite far these are my original 7 plus 10 offspring
so The elders research but I haven't forced them into it, I find that I can get 3000 tech points by getting the kids collecting Butterflies etc(I have 3 collections complete just waiting on a butterfly) and enough food in mushrooms and crops and in about one hour play I can earn more tech and food points by actually playing the game, not just buying tech!more than the villagers manage
so that is why I dont need L2 science yet and L2 or 3 farming... my way is weird but playable

I will often choose a different order depending on whether I'm trying a specific strategy and/or what the early events are.

But I'll often get L2 Engineering first, and L2 Science or L2 Explore as early as I can.

I'll hold off on L2 Farming until the food resources really need the extra boost of the coconuts, and L2 Medicine until my oldest villagers turn 50. L2 Culture always waits until I'm ready for L3 Culture (unless I get it in an event.)

The order of the L3 techs is often mixed up, and sometimes I'll have an L3 bought (usually Science) before some of the L2s.

IOW, there is no "correct" order, and changing what you do can make for some interesting games.
