when I don't want to have a gazillion children i keep picking him up and putting him on a woman over 50, over and over and over... eventually they become a master at it.

Tried that for the last 20 minutes! it doesnt work he just keeps leaving and trying to breed everyone else!

Then let him be... Eventually he'll kiss enough gals to make master status.

I dont have enough food for that...Im still working on getting my level 3 farming so I can fish again.

Check and see if you have him checked in detail screen for breeding. If you haven't given him a skill; check one off. This will slow him down on reproducing.

Hes checked as a builder and I keep putting him on the new hut but alas he has snuck away to impregnate a chick who just dropped her baby! get a clue, leave her alone, she needs rest!

Dropping an adult on a child will have them attempt to read a story (to one child, or any in immediate vicinity) or teach (to all children on the island). If successful, the adult increases in parenting. I've done this with an elder (tells stories) and a master scientist (teaches).

Make sure to pick up a child first and drop them, so they're not doing anything. Then, pick up the adult and drop him/her on the kid. Can't remember if having the adult's primary skill choice set to parenting matters or not. Seems like you'd wanna change it to something else, as otherwise the game might think you're trying to initiate a romantic encounter with a child (ick!). But, as I said, I can't remember for sure.
