Hey I really love the idea that you can change the clothes, sure comes in handy w/keeping up with the groups as well as stages(trainee/adept/master)
I have my villagers set-up w/builders have 1 set-example:(white shirt/blk pants-trainee,red/blk jumper-adept,brown jumper-master)I did the same(different set of clothes for each skill) for 4 skills ending with all white standing for Dr. Sure makes it easier keeping up/where they are also if you need a DR quick just grab one in white. This especially helpful identfying whose/what in the crowd.

I don't have the patience to keep changing the villagers' clothes in that way; every time someone advances from trainee to adept and so on, plus when they change skills you'd need to go back to the sewing hut. It must be an almost full time job! I do change the doctors' clothes to white so that I can spot them easily. In one game I also switched Elders to yellow outfits, but kept forgetting to change the new ones so I gave up. Most of those still living are as they originally appeared as kids.

A couple of times I've changed a female villager's clothes because they looked unattractive - particularly the frumpy brown sack a few have to wear.

I only change their clothes when they are on their third skill set before becoming an Elder, and again when they become an Elder. That way I know where they really need to be and, since I let Elders do whatever they want, when to leave them alone. I do put Healers in white so I can find them easier. I have all 50 totems but I still change clothes to Elder costumes when they reach their third Master level just to remember to leave them alone. I change clothes once a day when I first open the game, then I just let them go.

What really helps me is once you have the max pop(115) and your 14 yr start working is to place them in an out fit that stands out from the others...makes it easier to spot them and keep them on task as well know where they are suppose to be is all..and it really didn't take very long to update the pop..just thought I would mention something that helped me most all my villagers completely skilled by time they were 23-25..

I only make three changes to their clothes - orange for the buliders, green for the farmers and black or black and white for those who should be at the research table. It hepls me keep track of who should be doing what and as tbug mentions it means the villagers become skilled a lot quicker.

I am very happy that we can change our villagers clothing. I only change them if I think they look frumpy.
But there was a suggestion post where a poster said that in vv3 they would like where the face and hair could be changed. I am 100% against the face change, but I am totally for the hair change.I would like even more selections in there clothing.I am a little girl at heart.I loved paper dolls and any doll dress ups.I make dolls. So that would be great changes.
