A few suggestions for vv3. I haven't read all posts here so I hope I don't repeat too much off what have already been said.
School: At a certain level of engineering and culture a school can be built. But in order for it to be useful you need one or more teachers and only Esteemed Elders can be teachers. And they will only teach in those subjects as they are masters in.
This will give an incitement to keep training people to be Esteemed Elders for more then just the totem, and it will give you a chance to train the kids in some skills before they grow up. And in order train kids in more then just three skills you need several Esteemed Elders with different skills as teachers.
Masters in skills: To make an incitement to get masters later in the game have villagers working on the same project as a master learn quicker. Example: A villager working on the same hut as a master is will learn building skills a bit faster then he would otherwise.
Chieftain: At a certain level of culture and with a large enough populace a villager can become the tribe chief. He will have some requirements as maybe master in 4-5 skills or similar. But when you actually have one the whole village will get some big advantage. That advantage can disappear when he dies or be permanent.
Clothes: You should be able to select the color of the clothes (when you go to the sewing hut) and not just a few set outfits. For instance you should be able to get outfit A with color B on the shirt and color C on the trousers.
Map: A bigger map would be nice, perhaps you can unlock parts of the map as you complete tasks.
Food: More sources of food, like banana trees and berry bushes. Fishing boats for bigger catches. (requires a high engineering level) Fishing nets for bigger catches. (requires something to get) More then one field. Upgraded agriculture tech will give bigger harvests.
Tech: More tech areas and a few more steps on each. Some suggestions: Fishing, agriculture, metalwork, astronomy. I would like to see around 12-15 techs with around 6-8 steps on each.
Seasons: As some have suggested before day and night would be nice but wouldn't "fit" with the time line. But seasons would. It would make things look a bit better but more important you can time different things to different seasons. Like crops and events of cultural significance. Like a party every equinox. Or that some task have to be done at a certain season. Also things like the flu (several people sick) could follow seasons.
Hope I managed to give you a few good suggestions.
