I don't know how I managed it but I managed to get second level of all the techs as well as third level of research and medicene before getting farming and never hit starvation, despite having a population of 20+. No deaths either. Must have gotten the right combo of villagers.

When I start a game, I like to just keep hitting start over until I have a good set of villager. This time I got two runners.

It has nothing to do with luck or somthing to sent congrats to when somone feels the need to cheat to gain things that they want. If you feel like the villagers your given arent what you wanted, then just wait till the next generation, pressing restart over and over again untill you get villagers that you can take advantage of in the situation, is cheating as far as im concerned. like time warping. patience is a virtue and im not seeing alot with some.

Playing VV1 and VV2 later on I would often restart a game if I didn't get a runner in the first batch of villagers. Now I don't bother. I will, however, restart if the first set contains a villager who dislikes running. I certainly don't think of this as cheating; otherwise, why would the "Start Again" button be there?

Welllllll, actually the "Start Over" function was added to our games after Fish Tycoon was released. You would not believe how many support tickets we got (and still get, occasionally) because people couldn't figure out how to start a new game after all their fish died and they had no money to buy eggs.

I don't see how it's cheating. Sometimes it can take quite some time to get a good set of villagers. Half the fun in alot of games is the creation of the character(s). When I start a role-playing, I can spend a few days just working up the perfect character.

i was giving congrats for getting all those techs without fishing

its a goal i currently have in one of my games

personally, i got lucky and got a runner on my first try

i rarely start over unless i get a batch of villagers who dislike learning and work or like laundry

when i think that the village is just going to suicide itself, i save myself the heartbreak

on the issue of restarting repeatedly to get the villagers you want, to each his own. while i do not necessarily approve of it, and do not employ it in my own games, it does not make the overall game that much easier in the long run in my opinion

What I was shooting for was one runner and no one who liked laundry or dislike work or learning as well as a more equal number of female to male (I usually ended up starting with only two females). This game, I ended up with 2 runners.
