I am Mahalo, the son of the master builder, Puya, and the master scientist, Jade, and I am seven years old.

For a long time, my village was trying to learn enough to build a scarecrow that would keep all the flocks of birds out of our garden, but they didn't make it. Everyone in my village died before we could gain the knowledge, and now I am all alone.

I am very weak, and I may be joining all of them very soon. Until that time comes, I will continue to hunt for mushrooms--I found three great red ones today alone! I can't help but feel like someone is watching out for me. It is like they're sending me in the right direction to find these things. Sometimes, too, I find things like shells and pebbles and bugs. I keep collecting them with the hope that one day, I will be wise enough to build my very own scarecrow and maybe even figure out a way to get rid of that algae that's blocking my fishing waters. Hopefully, my end will wait until I'm ready, but my fire is dwindling and I'm far too young to restart it!

Sincerely,
Mahalo
