You must make a stew using 3 red flowers and feed the children. They’ll start exercising and after completing their “exercising program’ they’ll improve at building. The more you make the stew and you feed them the more they gain their building skills.
But you must be careful. They are 3 kinds of exercising: swimming (in the sea), jogging (around the island) and body building (using the stones near the gong).
If the sea is clean and the children go swimming they won’t complete their “program” because the children can’t swim.
If the sewing hut is completed and the children go jogging the hut will stop them (this is a glitch of the game).
That’s why they can gain their building skills only by bodybuilding.
You must take care of them. After eating the stew they must go to the place near the gong. If they go to the sea or to the pond (from there they start the jogging) drop them to the stew and feed them again.
If the sea isn’t clean the children don’t go swimming. So don’t clean it very early in the game.
Until completing the sewing hut the children can go jogging without any problem. So complete it as late as possible.

does this only work on children under 14? it doesn't seem to work on anyone of working age

It works at everyone! The adults can also gain their skills by swimming. But the children gain their building skills VERY FAST! Also the adults can gain their skills by working on the huts etc and it isn’t so necessary to feed them. If you feed the adults the stew ends sooner. Believe me! All my children are at least adept builders and that’s GREAT!!!

It must be a glitch in just your game or something. Mine go by the sexing hut and it works there also. Just not to the ocean.

And i just noticed earlier when I posted, i said "sexing" hut......lol. I honestly meant sewing hut.....my fingers just went the wrong direction apparently....LOL

LOL oertels6...your typo was funny to me because I didn't think it was a typo at all. I thought it was your term for what I call the Love Shack. Funny. But what ya'll are actually talking about is the sewing hut right?

Bethlam you're right! I was talking about the SEWING HUT! When the villagers go for jogging and go near it, they start running from the hut to hospital again and again and they can't finish their "exercising program". To gain their skills they must run all around the island and finally seat between the fire and the table of the reserchers. Otherwise they DON'T GAIN THEIR BUILDING SKILLS.
At least in my game I noticed this glitch many times.
