Master Doctor - help needed pls

I have checked through FAQ's and I actually think I may be more puzzled. But I can't seem to get a Master Doctor. There has been plenty of villagers healed, yet Adept seems to be the highest. Does Medicine have to be at Level 3? It seems unlikely as other skills can reach Master without using tech points to buy advancement. And I also believe I am yet at the stage where I can start having my children do anything, so I'm looking for help for the adults.
many thanks in advance,

keep having your adepts study the strange plants. you may have to control them pretty tightly, for I have found that most will not do this voluntarily, and wander off to do laundry, chat, or play in the pond.

Thanks. I'll keep at it. I'm constantly dragging a villager towards the plants. And according to my stats, there have been 161 villagers cured! oops! wrong number. There have been 56 villagers cured. I thought it sounded a tad bit high! But still, 56 cures, and yet not one Master Doctor!

Let the fire go out, then people get sick. That just seems so wrong!!! Along the same lines you can feed villagers stew that will SICKEN them. That will get the doctors attention. And I also believe I am yet at the stage where I can start having my children do anything, so I'm looking for help for the adults. I am pretty sure you can teach your children to heal by dropping them on sick villagers. Maybe even to master level. (to read the empty text highlight it)

You can definitely get a Master Doctor just like any other Master. You just have to keep at it.

Actually, I usually get Master Doctors before anything else. I like to take the youngest child and use them to heal. By the time they get to be adult, they're already Adept Doctors if they've had enough healing chances. Then it is just a matter of continuing to heal and studying herbs and there you go. You can often get a Master Doctor that's only 30 something.

I'm having the same problem getting a Master Doctor. Once their blue tube is half full, they quit studying the strange plants on their own. Why did the creators of the game program them like this??

Student doctors in real life learn a lot in their first few working years. Once they graduate their pace of learning slows and they have to rely on curing people ...

Thanks for the feedback everybody. I now have a villager who likes herbs, but even she won't stay on task studying the strange plants, and I'm sure not going to get charpel tunnel trying to keep a doctor on task. I suppose the creators of the game programmed them this way to prevent us getting Esteemed Elders, but my question is why?? This game is suppose to be fun. I must say that with the exception of the obsession with laundry, I much prefer the little villagers in VV1 over these villagers.

In order to get a master doctor, the doctor will have to perform a large amount of cures and/or herb studies. Herb studies are difficult two reasons: 1. Villagers don't normally study herbs on their own (although every so often they will, but it's only once and then they go back to other activities). 2. Sometimes when you drag a villager onto an herb, he/she will go into "Herb Studying" mode and go from herb to herb studying them, however, they have a tendency to get caught on objects in the game and forget what they were doing. Basically, herb studying in an impractical way to reach Master Doctor for these two reasons. Performing cures is a much easier way, as doctors will do this automatically if someone is sick. There are several ways to create more sick people: 1. Grow your population the more people you have, the more sick people your doctor will be able to heal. 2. Let the fire go out The fire reduces the likelihood of sickness, so if you are trying to train a doctor, let it go out so there will be more cures for your doctor to perform. 3. Prepare a "Sick" stew There are certain stews that make villagers sick. By feeding this stew to many villagers, your doctor will be able to perform a large number of cures all at once. If you're lucky, you may also get an event that will create a master doctor. I also hear that end-game there is another way you can get master doctor as well

I don't understand the problem here. I regularly train one or two villagers as doctors, and when they reach trainee level I leave them alone. Every now and then I'll remind them who's in charge by interrupting their strolls on the beach or enjoyment of the pond by making them study a flower, but that's about all I'll do to interfere. In course of time most of them become master doctors and several have become elders.

You're very fortunate, arnie. I've never ever had a doctor become master unless I got an an event. They get to adept and virtually stop learning except there's an occasional illness. I rather suspect that's the same for most people, as evidenced by this thread and others

I've had quite a few villagers from different villages become master doctors without any encouragement from me. I've even saw trainee and adept doctors examining the herbs. I've got to say this really surprised me since most of the docs prefer relaxing on the beach.
In the beginning of a game, I want the puzzle, so, of course, I take an adult villager by hand to all the herbs. Then, when a person or persons becomes sick, I rush children around to heal them. This way my kiddies will be apprentice doctors.
In one of my earlier games, I used the same child for healing; she became a master doctor at 15.

Maybe my villagers stay too healthy - and no, I'm not about to feed them the "make sick" stew this century

lol. I don't feed them the stew either. But when an event makes people sick, I use my children to heal most of them.

Sometimes I use children, sometimes I have a preferred villager who is the healer. But I usually don't worry about whether I have a Master Doctor or not, I find that they will often train themselves when the game is shut off or if I'm in another game slot. I have seen villagers go to study herbs & flowers on their own, but only if they are a young teenager or if the food supply is less than 300. But even then, they sometimes get stuck by the dam. BTW, in a new game I recently started, I didn't complete the herb puzzle. But I also have only need to cure one villager! I don't know if there is a relationship or not, but I don't really mind not having doctors if my villagers aren't getting sick! (The game has been running for a while, I have L2 explore, farming, engineering and science, completed the shell collection, two each butterflies and pebbles and six beetles still needed.)

lol, Willie Wonka !! I am still hung up on this Master Doctor thing. I've had three villages running on VV1 since September, so when I saw the villagers initially going from plant to plant to plant to study them, I was really excited. But that soon led to disappointment, as villager after villager abandoned their medical studies, in favor of floating in the pond. Is there any thread on here where LDW explains why they created a village where there is a hospital, but no villagers interested in becoming Master Doctors?

Zippie,
I don't know what the problem is. I've had many Master doctors and very few of them have been ones that I've engineered. Get someone started on doctoring at a young age (as young as 2 works) by placing them on someone needing healing a few times until it works. Have them heal 3 or 4 people and they'll become an apprentice doctor and then continue to doctor when they're old enough without any prompting from you. Of course when there's an epidemic of some sort you can assist by popping them on people needing healing. Wah lah, you've got a Master doctor after a while.

Thanks, Tess. My real question though is why are the little villagers programmed to stop studying the strange plants once they reach adept. I have gone back through a lot of the threads here and so many people are complaining about master doctors, and I have seen no comment from anyone at Last Day of Work as to why these little villagers stop studying the plants. It was not like that in the first Virtual Villagers. This is a cute game, but overall, I am disappointed, and will not be keeping a village going with this game, as I have for nine months now with the first game. But thanks for the help.

While I agree with you that it'll be nice if the villagers continued to study the plants, it is not necessary to keep a village running. I have several mature villages, andMaster Doctors in many of them.
Just like you need to train new villagers to be a parent when the older ones turn elderly or die, new doctors need to be "started." I'll either pick kids to do all the healing when I have an health issue, ir find one who likes "medicine." When the game is turned off, or switched to another game slot, those villagers will increase their skills and will often start healing villagers on their own.

I've got a 16-year-old adept doctor at the moment who dislikes herbs. Early this morning I had an event that caused several villagers to become ill and I discovered that my only doctor had died overnight. I grabbed the nearest kid at random and used her to heal them. This evening I came home and I see she's grown up and become an adept. She could have only been a trainee when she turned 14 so she must have found several people to heal while the game was off. If I drop her on any of the herbs she's off like a startled rabbit. It'll be interesting to see how long it is before she becomes a master.

I opened the game about 12 hours after my last post and she's now a master doctor - at 22. I've now set her to parenting and have picked a young 14-year-old lad as her assistant, in case she has to look after children. When last seen he was happily wandering from plant to plant - I made sure beforehand that he had no aversion to herbs.
