I've actually got mine running as a screensaver right now. I set my Zire's "Stay on in cradle" to on, and then put it in the cradle and started Village Sim. I run it either with one villager selected (watching him/her roam all over the map) or with the map view showing.

I like looking over to see what they're doing!

I do agree, though, that a screensaver mode that showed different parts, or jumped between your villagers one every 15 seconds or so to show what each is doing, would be very cool.
