Another question, if i built the dam before i got the special algae-eating fish am i doomed?

i tried to get it from the pond, but then the dam was finished and the pond wasn't there.

Wrong pond. The algae eating fish come from the pond that has the waterfall. To catch the fish has certain pre-requisites. See the puzzle solution guide to find out what type of master is needed and what if any technologies need to be done.

The algae eating fish come from the body of water that is on the right side of your screen, just above the dam you build, which is just above the area that the mosaic floor is uncovered at that you thought was the pond that the fish came from.

im playing vv2 i just call the the pond a lagoon because in vv2 there are two ponds.
