Anyone want to share their favorite tips to get things in your village going strong? For example: what you had people concentrate on first, and how it worked out for you? How to keep the babies coming and when to start?

Well I’m just a beginner, but I have found that the first hurdle is keeping the villagers alive until your first crop is ready for harvest. The first time I played the game, I was concentrating on getting a master in each of the “arts”. I had the first hut up and had 10 villagers (6 adults and 4 kids). This proved to be a disaster, as I ran out of food before my filed was producing crops, thereby starving my villagers. So the second time, I concentrated on getting tech points and getting my field to produce food. After I was harvesting food from the field, I then concentrated on having babies and finishing the first hut. I now have the debris cleaned up on the beach and am in process of clearing the blockage from the creek and having as many babies as I can.

TheVillageIdiot...I think you may have to change your name to TheFormerVillageIdiot, there is nothing idiotic at all about the approach that you are taking.

Whether it works or not in the long run will have to be seen though....

Thanks. I was only blessed by the Gods of VS to have two women, so at her present state, I can’t get her to go indoors. I will keep trying the food and water and see what happens.

On Edit: I thought you were responding on my health question on another thread called "Health". I hope I did not confuse to many peeps.

Dnac, you probably haven't done enough resarch in the correct areas yet. The villagers will know how to clear the rocks when they have the right knowledge

Dnac, I think treefern is talking about tech levels, you have not purchased the right tech level so that they know how to do it. Make sense?

All the research is done from the table.... when you get enough points, you choose the area you want them to advance in.

Having enough food seems to be key. Before getting level two of the medicine tech, i had full health on a 60 year old male, which I belive to be due to the amount of food in storage.

Tip: For those that are ready to step up the breeding, make only females improve at breeding, not males. This is so that the males don't go around and try to impregnate the females you can't do without. Then the female breeders can just go find any eligible male, do their thing, and then take care of any resulting babies (so you'll always know what they're up to.)

Once you're near the end of the game, with all your tech research done, then having male breeders is bunches of fun. If you go away a while, and your population isn't maxed out yet at [ 65 ], then you'll find lots of new mothers.

Buny, you need to keep building up those reserach points. From the sounds of itm you are doing fine. Just have patience to get to level 3 of everything, and the last few puzzles will start working out

I agree with the reply that Savi posted to your question in another thread. You're really not stuck until you have 'purchased' L3 in every technology and have played for at least a day after that - it can take some time for those little people to get everything done!

Some puzzles require specific levels of technology and villagers with specific skills.

The 12th puzzle is designed to be very, very difficult, so it will take some real work to solve it.

I work on always having enough food while working on research. The best way to get A LOT of food soon is to have a few babies, then when they are 2 years old, I go around the island looking for mushrooms and when I find one, I pause the game, then put every child I have on it. That one mushroom (hope it is a red one) multiplies into however many children picked it. Even 6 children on a brown mushroom is 48 food. (That would be 270 food for a red mushroom.)

I started first by concentrating on 1 on the berry bush, 2 building, 1 Research, 1 breeding. I did ok with that. this is still my first game and I am going really well. Next time I might not have a breeder straight away or 2 builders. After playing for a while now, I probably should have put them on research also. Get the tech points quicker.

Oh yeah sorry I forgot to say that I have noticed in my game that the mushrooms seem to always appear not long after I return to the game. So if I have quit, gone and done something else and loaded it back up, I think about 5 mins later a mushie will appear. I haven't tested this by repeatedly quitting and restarting.

I don't worry too much about the building projects after the first hut is completed. That allows you up to 15 villagers which is more than a village can sustain until food is upgraded. In the meantime, the builders can be farming or researching or making babies. I usually upgrade to level 2 in the following order: food, science, spirituality, and than construction.

My tip is to go back and reread the last few pages of this forum after a week of playing the game. I understand much more of what I read when I first came here. I'm also marking favorite posts for reference, and making a text file of good tips that sound like things I should remember for later.

I forgot to add:

When villagers get elderly, does eating, drinking, swimming in the lagoon help them?

Which of the emotes, like "raindancing," are really important to keeping folks alive. I know they complain when there isn't enough food and that laundry is not important.

I'm wondering if they speak up when elderly, mostly, and if there is anything that can be done (aside from maxxing medicine, which I'm working on).

To fish, you need 3er level of farming

Wow, thanks Rand, that's a great tip. What I do is when the field gets down to 10 or 15, I bring all the adults to harvest crops. I can get 6 or 8 baskets worth (lots of food!) out of an almost empty field.

I couldnt find an exact place on the forum to pose this question - this spot seemed like the closest fit. When you have an event soon after beginning the game which gives a villager a lot of expertise in one area, is there anything that can be done with that? I'm trying to ask w/out giving too much away hopefully someone will catch what I mean. Like for instance, if a villager suddenly learned to be an expert marksman (just throwing something off out as an example) would I be able to have him perform umm....like say an assassination right away? Or would other tech have to be purchased first? OK my examples are really awful, but hey.

If you are talkng abt the prodigy child, Yaelle, they wont do anything til they are 14.
If its the event that happens to the Adult, its just a handy thing to have. Some of the puzzles require people of certain skills and certain levels of research to be completed before the puzzles can be done. Having that event means you dont have to wait for that particular person to become a Master.

Two things on this:
  1. No, not until you're 14.
  2. Yes, you do need to purchase technology first.

The 14 year old thing is a technicality. The bonus you gain when said child acquires their skill represents the work they would perform over the course of their childhood.

Just because you have an expert farmer, he doesn't magically gain a fishing rod. By this same token, your marksman will need to rely on throwing rocks until someone invents the bow and arrow.
