Yes its completely random and their also uncommon ones and rare ones, just be patient, it was doing the same for me, it was a week of constant watching and then i got the last 3 all at once.

I have posted several times about the collectibles and have received no help, other than be patient. I have read that the collectibles were designed to be difficult to obtain...that's an understatement!!! Although....I find the entire game to be harder...and slightly more frustrating than VV1...although I still like the game. I have tried the various untested or unverified "tips" for making collectibles appear, and am not sure that they really work...I think it is just random chance. I have all the tech, all the totems, all the puzzles, but need 3 collectibles. It is SO frustrating. I finally started playing by "sorting" my villagers by clothing to have some way to designate those that still make elder although they are not awarded a totem...(BUMMER)...but with 100 villagers it is REALLY time consuming, and I only did it with the hopes that I would accidentally stumble upon a collectible in the process....NO LUCK! I have played for a week now with no new collectibles. It is really frustrating....I FEEL YOUR PAIN...:)

Yesterday I left the room for a few minutes and when I returned there it was, my very last beetle! Right next to it a child, success ... no, the child couldn't see it and it just disappeared before my very eyes. Ouch \:\(

I have games going in all five slots and all are as far as it is possible to go in terms of tech levels and milestones. Out of a possible 20 sets of collectibles I have one - butterflies in one game. Every other set is missing between one and four items. Every now and then I will spot a new rare/uncommon item, but only I'd guess five in the last week. Every other collectible that pops up is a duplicate. I'm not micromanaging the games to anything like the extent as when I was still working towards the milestones, and of course with five games I can spend less time on each game. No doubt the collectibles I need have popped up; I just wasn't around to see them.

I have five games running too - and have only completed one collection. It's very hard and very random. I've just decided to be patient and be happy if I grab one new item a day! VV is definitely not a game designed for speedy play!

I had all the shells, butterflies, and rocks before I lost my game, now it seems like I'm nowhere close.

I guess I should feel lucky that I have 2 "finished" collectibles (shells and bettles) in one of my games...and I would be OH SO happy if I got one a day....but it has been at least a week since I got a new one....so very frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YES, yes, yes! I have completed all four collections. Just when I was giving up on that last butterfly it landed right next to the research table where I was (rather impatiently) training a reluctant villager in the wonders of science. I almost let it go - then that moment of panic as you search for the nearest child and hurl them upon the precious item. YES, success :-)

Smug, satisfied, content.

I finished the collections of the butterflies and the beetles quite early on in the game but weeks have passed now and I'm still looking for 2 pebbles and 1 shell to complete those collections. I guess patience is the name of the game

I played for a solid 24hours, and still didn't get all the collectables.

Does anything special happen if you find all the collectibles? or is a waste of time

Thank You LadyCFII. that answered 2 questions...I couldn't figure out how someone could have 99 villagers without having 3-4 villagers freakishly have triplets all at the same moment in time
